If Peacock doesn\u2019t open the vault for the top streaming comedy of 2026, then what\u2019s the point of having so many gold coins that the mascot can swim in them?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to overstate how much Seth MacFarlane\u2019s\u00a0<\/a>Ted\u00a0series, based on his pair of smash-hit feature films by <\/a>the same name, exceeded expectations and dominated the streaming comedy business. The chart-topping second season of\u00a0Ted\u00a0has passed 1.2 billion minutes streamed since its release in March while it garnered rave reviews from critics, and, in an era of entertainment when consistently killer sitcoms are few and far between, MacFarlane and his team proved that a comedy show doesn\u2019t need to be miserable, mopey awards-bait to get attention in the modern media landscape.<\/p>\n

But behind the scenes, the intense production demands that come with a fully VFX title character had Ted burning a hole through Peacock’s feathered pockets, and, shortly before the release of Ted Season Two, both MacFarlane and his patrons warned fans <\/a>that they probably won’t be able to keep the lights on at the Bennett house.<\/p>\n

Then, on Saturday, MacFarlane spoke on a Ted panel at the Deadline Contenders TV convention <\/a>and revealed that, in the wake of Season Two’s runaway success, he is putting pressure on Peacock to break open the piggy bank and keep the live-action Ted universe intact. Said MacFarlane of Ted’s future, \u201cIt really is up to to Peacock with their, you know, vast amounts of big Scrooge McDuck money, the vault that they dive into every day in their pajamas.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

When the topic of the gloomy outlook for Ted Season Three arose, series star Alanna Ubach <\/a>joked to the convention crowd, \u201cAnd that’s why you’re all here! If you could just– we have a bucket right there, you give us whatever you can! We deserve it!\u201d<\/p>\n

Critically, Peacock isn’t planning to drop the Ted franchise altogether \u2013 a less labor-intensive animated Ted series is slated to premiere later this year, with film star and alleged hate criminal Mark Wahlberg returning to the Ted extended universe. However, the brilliance of Peacock’s Ted lies in its current cast and crew, and MacFarlane announced that he is fighting to secure their future in the franchise in the face of financial pressure.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think all of us, in some form or another, whether it\u2019s a Season Three of Ted or a direct-to-Peacock feature with this cast, is something I think we\u2019d all be up for. It\u2019s all on the table, it’s really up to them,\u201d MacFarlane teased hopefully, though he admitted that the arc of main character John Bennett was a little too conclusive in the Ted Season Two finale.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe could always send him to junior college,\u201d Ubach suggested of John’s next story, \u201cSend the bear to Harvard! Legally Blonde all over again!\u201d<\/p>\n

But while MacFarlane says that he’s \u201cthought about\u201d ways to continue the live-action Ted universe, he also has optimism for the upcoming, slightly-less-exciting, animated Wahlberg vehicle as well. \u201cIt\u2019s only fitting that it all comes back around to the animated show, the first season of which is getting close to completion as far as the production cycle.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sadly, Ubach isn’t listed in the voice cast for the Ted cartoon, so, from a fan perspective, it’s cold comfort to know that the consolation prize for Susan Bennett losing her job is Mark Walhberg getting his back.<\/p>\n
