Switching up their standard specialties for the album\u2019s first three tracks (\u201cLet\u2019s Fall in Love,\u201d \u201cAnything Goes,\u201d and \u201cToo Close for Comfort\u201d), Getz took on baritone sax, while Mulligan played tenor. They were accompanied by Lou Levy on piano, Ray Brown on bass, and Stan Levey on drums\u2014the six-track album would end up being the only instance Getz and Mulligan recorded in a quintet format. The new reissue is due out on October 24th, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Getz and Mulligan were both key figures in the cool jazz movement, a post-WWII strain of the genre inspired by bebop and big band music. While Mulligan was lauded for his collaborations with Chet Baker and standards like \u201cWalkin\u2019 Shoes\u201d and \u201cFive Brothers,\u201d Getz is credited with popularizing bossa nova music in the United States, in part through the 1964 hit \u201cThe Girl From Ipanema.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dedicated to reissuing classic jazz recordings, Verve\u2019s Acoustic Sounds series also features records from John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Nina Simone and many more. Each release is mastered by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound from original analog tapes, and supervised by Chad Kassem, Acoustic Sounds\u2019 CEO. Both Getz and Mulligan have also previously been featured in the series.
