{"id":46547,"date":"2025-09-06T03:30:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-06T03:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/46547\/"},"modified":"2025-09-06T03:30:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-06T03:30:07","slug":"kristin-davis-is-still-processing-the-and-just-like-that-reaction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/46547\/","title":{"rendered":"Kristin Davis Is Still Processing the &#8216;And Just Like That&#8217; Reaction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/kristin-davis\/\" id=\"auto-tag_kristin-davis_1\" data-tag=\"kristin-davis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kristin Davis<\/a> hasn\u2019t yet made sense of the critical reaction to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/and-just-like-that\/\" id=\"auto-tag_and-just-like-that_1\" data-tag=\"and-just-like-that\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">And Just Like That<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/sex-city\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sex-city_1\" data-tag=\"sex-city\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sex and the City<\/a> sequel series recently <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/and-just-like-that-finale-michael-patrick-king-satc-ending-interview-1236345204\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/and-just-like-that-finale-michael-patrick-king-satc-ending-interview-1236345204\/\">signed off after three seasons<\/a> (taking place after six seasons of the original series and the two movies) with Carrie Bradshaw (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/sarah-jessica-parker\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sarah-jessica-parker_1\" data-tag=\"sarah-jessica-parker\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sarah Jessica Parker<\/a>) happy and single, and the rest of the cast left in somewhat open-ended but hopeful marriages or relationships.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s been very, very weird, the whole trying to come back with this different, similar show, right? We were very clear about [how] it\u2019s a different show [but] same characters \u2014\u00a0which I really think I was naive about how weird that was for people, for our fans,\u201d Davis said on the most recent episode of her iHeartRadio podcast <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.iheart.com\/podcast\/1119-are-you-a-charlotte-247668155\/episode\/catching-up-with-friends-with-dan-292250119\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iheart.com\/podcast\/1119-are-you-a-charlotte-247668155\/episode\/catching-up-with-friends-with-dan-292250119\/\">Are You a Charlotte?<\/a> \u201cIt\u2019s kind of asking a lot of fans. I guess I\u2019m still trying to figure this out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWhile reflecting on the franchise with guest Dan Futterman, Davis said that her co-star Cynthia Nixon sent her the recent <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/08\/14\/podcasts\/and-just-like-that-finale-cannonball.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/08\/14\/podcasts\/and-just-like-that-finale-cannonball.html\">Times\u00a0podcast<\/a> where Taffy Brodesser-Akner shared her assessment of the series, which Davis said \u201creally gave me hope. Like at this point, I\u2019m looking for any understanding of what we were trying to do,\u201d she said, quoting Brodesser-Akner as summing up And Just Like That as a \u201cdocumentary of middle age.\u201d Adding, \u201cI feel so seen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDavis admitted, while getting choked up, that they knew people would have \u201ca lot of thoughts and feelings\u201d about <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/lists\/best-sex-and-the-city-episodes-of-all-time-ranked\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/lists\/best-sex-and-the-city-episodes-of-all-time-ranked\/\">Sex and the City coming back<\/a> in the form of And Just Like That to catch up with the main cast a decade later, \u201cbut we didn\u2019t really understand the depth of confusion and\/or I guess struggle about us aging and trying to talk about the things that you talk about and deal with in your fifties. It\u2019s like a lot of people have some super strong feelings about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDavis is right in that season three became the talk of the town, as critics and viewers shared their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/and-just-like-that-hate-watch-season-3-explained-1236318418\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/and-just-like-that-hate-watch-season-3-explained-1236318418\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">hot takes <\/a>(which included <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/sarah-jessica-parker-responds-and-just-like-that-hate-watching-1236346834\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/sarah-jessica-parker-responds-and-just-like-that-hate-watching-1236346834\/\">a \u201chate-watching\u201d trend<\/a>) throughout And Just Like That\u2019s recent viral run. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDavis also shared that she didn\u2019t know the series was ending ahead of time: \u201cI think because I didn\u2019t realize that we were going to end And Just Like That, so I\u2019m still processing and, like so Pollyanna, that I thought we would just keep going.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWriter\/director\/showrunner Michael Patrick King had <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/and-just-like-that-ending-season-3-1236335772\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/and-just-like-that-ending-season-3-1236335772\/\">officially announced<\/a> the HBO Max hit series would be ending only two weeks before the finale aired, saying in a statement that \u201cwhile I was writing the last episode of\u00a0And Just Like That\u00a0season three, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHe later explained to The Hollywood Reporter that he, star\/executive producer Sarah Jessica Parker and HBO made the decision not to announce that it was the final season any earlier because \u201cif you say the word \u2018final\u2019 at the beginning of a season\u2026 people wouldn\u2019t have\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/and-just-like-that-carrie-aidan-breakup-season-3-reaction-1236327030\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/and-just-like-that-carrie-aidan-breakup-season-3-reaction-1236327030\/\">struggled<\/a> with Carrie [Parker] and Aidan [John Corbett] the way they did. If you knew this was a final season, you wouldn\u2019t think about fixing it. You would just say, \u2018Well, that\u2019s over,&#8217;\u201d he said of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/and-just-like-that-moves-on-carrie-aidan-1236335130\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/and-just-like-that-moves-on-carrie-aidan-1236335130\/\">splitting up Carrie and longtime love Aidan<\/a> during season three. \u201cSo we made a decision with HBO and with everyone to not say \u2018final\u2019 because \u2026 you\u2019re going to talk about how it ends before it even begins? This season was so active \u2014 as you see, it was\u00a0very active. The word \u2018final\u2019 is like a funeral dirge on something that we wanted to be a party.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tStill, King told THR that he didn\u2019t second guess the decision to wrap the franchise amid the buzzy response because \u201cI believe that sometimes you take the candy away,\u201d he said, \u201cAnd I believe \u2014 in my perhaps delusion \u2014 that it will resonate correctly. Once everybody gets over the, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-reviews\/and-just-like-that-hbo-series-finale-review-1236345250\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-reviews\/and-just-like-that-hbo-series-finale-review-1236345250\/\">\u2018I want it to end a different way.\u2019<\/a> Once everyone stops writing their show. Also, there\u2019s a whole other unchatty world of the people who have watched and loved these characters for 27 years. And that\u2019s really who we\u2019re writing to. To make sure that Carrie\u2019s taken care of and that\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0taking care of.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tJulie Rottenberg and Elisa Zuritsky, writers on both the original series and And Just Like That, also tried to make sense of the reaction when <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/and-just-like-that-writers-defend-finale-carrie-ending-satc-1236349067\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/and-just-like-that-writers-defend-finale-carrie-ending-satc-1236349067\/\">unpacking the end of the franchise with THR<\/a>. \u201c[Carrie] represents so much for so many people so, of course, we\u2019re never going to please all the people all the time. I think that has been well documented!\u201d said Rottenberg. \u201c[But] why are people so angry? I think it comes back to the double-edged sword of these characters who have been around for decades, who are so deeply ingrained in people\u2019s lives and imaginations and their feelings. So any choices we made, I think, become incredibly personal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDuring her podcast, Davis similarly shared her confusion when trying to understand how viewers felt and still feel about the sequel series. \u201cPeople are projecting all kind of things of their own and their own expectations and or desires and or disappointments or whatever it is. They have such strong feelings. And so when I can be calm about it, I know that that\u2019s a compliment, right,\u201d she said, but \u201cit can be really painful. My biggest thing is that it\u2019s been very confusing. I\u2019m still confused, and I do not like to be confused. I like to understand things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDavis said that she, Parker and Nixon will continue to be in each other\u2019s lives, noting they went out to dinner last week. But she said it\u2019s been challenging to follow the online conversation while she\u2019s been \u201cmourning\u201d the series and in the public eye with her podcast. \u201cLet me tell you, it was like suddenly walking into your own funeral when you didn\u2019t know it was coming. I mean, it was like we died. At a certain point, I had to be like, \u2018OK\u2026 I got to put my phone down. I cannot look at Instagram,&#8217;\u201d she shared. \u201cYoung selves and the odes, you know, they\u2019re lovely odes to the death of our characters, but they didn\u2019t die.
