Super Smash Bros can finally be played on PC in the latest unofficial Nintendo port, but it comes at a terrible cost.<\/p>\n
Over the past few months, we\u2019ve seen the emergence of several Nintendo games appearing on platforms they probably shouldn\u2019t.<\/p>\n
We\u2019ve had Animal Crossing games appearing on PlayStation hardware<\/a>, while The Legend of Zelda has found a new home <\/a>on PC, just to name a couple.<\/p>\n The latest example has seen Super Smash Bros for the Nintendo 64 finally playable on PC, which is especially funny when you remember it\u2019s not even playable on the Nintendo Switch as of yet. This is all thanks to a new decompilation.<\/p>\n The Super Smash Bros PC Port Is Here But Its Made A Controversial Mistake<\/strong><\/p>\n Super Mario, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus Aran and more characters clash in the fighting game that kicked off one of Nintendo\u2019s most successful spin-off series.<\/p>\n The OG on Nintendo 64 was something special and while the series got into its prime with Super Smash Bros Melee for the Nintendo GameCube, that\u2019s not to say the classic wasn\u2019t stellar as well.<\/p>\n PC players can now jump into the full version of the game on their rigs through the latest decompilation but it\u2019s turning many gamers away with how it was put together.<\/p>\n The dev behind the port has described the project as a \u201c100% AI-generated modern port\u201d used in conjunction with the decompilation.<\/p>\n Basically the dev took the decompilation and used AI to make the code playable, so while it works, it\u2019s not as in common with the original as you might think.<\/p>\n Now for some gamers out there, that\u2019s entirely fine as they just want to play some Super Smash Bros on their PC, but for others it\u2019s a dealbreaker.<\/p>\n AI use in the gaming industry has been slated for months now with pretty much any project that even considers AI to be helpful getting hit with an avalanche of hate online.<\/p>\n If you\u2019re one of those people that can\u2019t stand AI in any form, this unofficial port simply isn\u2019t for you. You\u2019re better off waiting for Nintendo to port the game to the Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2, either through Nintendo Switch Online or a standalone release like Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen.<\/p>\n Those who don\u2019t care though now have a PC version to play, joining several other games that are now playable without a Nintendo console.<\/p>\n Emulation Is Legal But Only Under Strict Rules<\/p>\n Just be aware that if you\u2019re choosing to emulate any games, you need to provide your own purchased physical copy to rip the ROM from. Pirating ROMs online is illegal so don\u2019t do it.<\/p>\n With both the Nintendo 64 and the Nintendo GameCube both supported with Nintendo Switch Online (GameCube requires a Nintendo Switch 2), hopefully we get a few Smash Bros games ported to modern hardware.<\/p>\n It wouldn\u2019t be surprising to see a collection released at some point, perhaps with upscaled visuals and, of course, online multiplayer support.<\/p>\n
