{"id":467177,"date":"2026-05-04T01:05:17","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T01:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/467177\/"},"modified":"2026-05-04T01:05:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T01:05:17","slug":"more-than-780000-bottles-of-a-popular-nasal-spray-recalled-due-to-risk-for-child-poisoning-heres-what-to-know","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/467177\/","title":{"rendered":"More Than 780,000 Bottles of a Popular Nasal Spray Recalled Due to Risk for \u2018Child Poisoning\u2019: Here\u2019s What to Know"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img alt=\"A woman using nasal spray (stock image).Credit: Getty\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1242\" height=\"828\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"standard-img w-full w-full h-auto\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/5fbbda107f7ab5da66659b0b5836de69.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A woman using nasal spray (stock image).<br \/>Credit: Getty<\/p>\n<p>NEED TO KNOW<\/p>\n<ul class=\"content-list\">\n<li>\n<p>More than 786,000 bottles of Afrin Original Nasal Spray have been recalled due to the risk of \u201cchild poisoning\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Bayer announced the voluntary recall of travel-sized products, as the packaging is not child-resistant and lacks a \u201cfront label statement\u201d required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The affected products were distributed at convenience stores and travel hubs between September 2024 and April 2026<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A popular nasal spray distributed across the United States is being recalled due to the \u201crisk of serious injury or illness from child poisoning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, April 30, Bayer, a global pharmaceutical company, announced a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livewell.bayer.com\/afrin-original-spray-recall\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:voluntary recall;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">voluntary recall<\/a> of more than 786,000 units of its Afrin Original Nasal Spray 6 mL travel size bottles, as the product is not child-resistant and does not have a \u201crequired front label statement to that effect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpsc.gov\/Recalls\/2026\/Bayer-Recalls-6-mL-Size-Afrin-Original-Nasal-Spray-Bottles-Due-to-Risk-of-Serious-Injury-or-Illness-from-Child-Poisoning-Violates-Mandatory-Standard-for-Child-Resistant-Packaging\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission<\/a> (CPSC), the nasal spray contains an imidazoline, which is required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act to be in child-resistant packaging or meet labeling requirements for non-compliant packaging.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"The front of the recalled Afrin nasal spray.Credit: Bayer\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"480\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"standard-img w-full w-full h-auto\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/bae710189d59be3916605444e5301356.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The front of the recalled Afrin nasal spray.<br \/>Credit: Bayer<\/p>\n<p>The recalled products now pose a \u201crisk of serious injury or illness from poisoning if the contents are swallowed by young children,&#8221; per the CPSC.<\/p>\n<p>No injuries or illnesses have been reported thus far. There are no health risks associated with adults using the recalled Afrin.<\/p>\n<p>While the travel-size bottles are not sold at major retailers, they could have been purchased at convenience stores or travel hubs, like airports or bodegas, between September 2024 and April 2026, the CPSC said.<\/p>\n<p>The recall affects unexpired bottles with lot numbers 230361, 240822, 241198, 250066, 250152, 250646 and 250831.
