{"id":468183,"date":"2026-05-04T16:54:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T16:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/468183\/"},"modified":"2026-05-04T16:54:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T16:54:11","slug":"son-of-a-critch-to-end-after-fifth-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/468183\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Son Of A Critch&#8217; To End After Fifth Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/mark-critch\/\" id=\"auto-tag_mark-critch\" data-tag=\"mark-critch\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Critch<\/a> just posted on social media that the upcoming fifth season of <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/son-of-a-critch\/\" id=\"auto-tag_son-of-a-critch\" data-tag=\"son-of-a-critch\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Son of a Critch<\/a> will be the sitcom\u2019s last.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn the last few moments, This Hour Has 22 Minutes star Critch shared a video (you can see below) confirming school\u2019s out for the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/cbc\/\" id=\"auto-tag_cbc\" data-tag=\"cbc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CBC<\/a> comedy, and wrote: \u201cTo all of you who\u2019ve been watching along, we\u2019ve officially started filming Season 5 of Son of a Critch. We\u2019re heading back to 1992 \u2013 the year I graduated high school \u2013 so you can expect all the awkwardness and growing pains that come with it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cAnd since it\u2019s the last year of high school, it will also be our final chapter. Growing up is hard to do \u2013 but it sure is fun to watch. We hope you\u2019ll join us this fall as we go back to school one last time on CBC and CBC Gem. Class dismissed, Mark Critch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tProduction on the 12-part fifth season is underway and will continue until June 18, with Critch the creator, co-showrunner, exec producer and star. It will launch in Canada in the fall on CBC and streamer CBC Gem. In the U.S., the show has <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2023\/05\/the-cw-moves-into-schitts-creek-territory-with-son-of-a-critch-1235359375\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">aired on The CW since 2023<\/a>, and some seasons are available on Netflix.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tCritch portrays his own father, Mike Sr., while Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (The Legend of Zelda) plays young Mark. Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange) plays grandfather Pop; Claire Rankin (Stargate Atlantis) plays his mother Mary; Colton Gobbo (Ginny &amp; Georgia) is older brother Mike Jr.; Mark Ezekiel Rivera is Mark\u2019s best friend Ritche; and Sophia Powers (Murder in a Small Town) is Fox, Mark\u2019s girlfriend. Other returning cast members include Richard Clarkin (Memory of a Killer), Nicole Underhay (Hudson &amp; Rex), Rodrigo Fernandez-Stoll (Doc) and Nora McLellan (Strays) as Sister Rose. Guest stars include Shawn Doyle (Star Trek: Discovery), Susan Kent (The Snake) and Rick Mercer (The Mercer Report).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe series follows comedian and actor Critch\u2019s formative years in St. John\u2019s, Newfoundland in Canada. A synopsis for Season 5 reveals it will follow Mark in his last year of high school just as Newfoundland\u2019s cod moratorium crisis turns his world upside down. \u201cWhile the adults scramble and the future feels suddenly uncertain, Mark is more determined than ever to chase his dream of becoming an actor \u2013 whether anyone\u2019s ready for him to grow up or not,\u201d it adds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tCritch created the show alongside co-showrunner Tim McAuliffe (The Office), with Project 10 Productions and Hawco Productions the makers in association with CBC and Lionsgate Television.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tCritch, McAuli\ufb00e and Andrew are Barnsley (Schitt\u2019s Creek) are exec producers along with Allan Hawco (Republic of Doyle). Perry Chafe and Amanda Joy serve as co-executive producers; Janine Squires, Erin Sullivan and John Vatcher are producers; and Shelby Bronstine is series producer.
