He later presented radio shows on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/newstalk\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/newstalk\/\">Newstalk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He won awards for investigative journalism, including European Journalist of the Year in 1998 and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/amnesty-international\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/amnesty-international\/\">Amnesty International<\/a> Award in 2001, according to the O\u2019Brien Press. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He is the author of The Story of Ireland, a children\u2019s book; The Long War: The IRA and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/sinn-fein\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/sinn-fein\/\">Sinn F\u00e9in<\/a>; and an edition of A Short History of Ireland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He lived in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/wicklow\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/wicklow\/\">Wicklow<\/a> with his family.
