Dave Grohl<\/a> has shown off his extensive knowledge of music history in a new episode of\u00a0Track Star.<\/p>\n

The singer appeared alongside his\u00a0Foo Fighters<\/a>\u00a0bandmates Nate Mendel and\u00a0Chris Shiflett <\/a>on the YouTube show in which musicians are\u00a0played\u00a0tracks on\u00a0headphones\u00a0and they\u00a0have to\u00a0identify\u00a0them as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n

In this case, all three came through with their music nerd credentials \u2013 Mendel\u00a0easily was\u00a0able to name\u00a0The Clash<\/a> from the opening strains of \u2018London Calling\u2019 and Buzzcocks <\/a>from \u2018Ever Fallen In Love\u2019.<\/p>\n

Shiflett ripped off his headphones and\u00a0asked\u00a0\u201care you joking?\u201d when played\u00a0Van Halen<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Ain\u2019t\u00a0Talkin\u2019 \u2018Bout Love\u2019,\u00a0and\u00a0immediately\u00a0knew\u00a0NOFX<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Linoleum\u2019,\u00a0but struggled more with\u00a0Sonic Youth<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Teen Age Riot\u2019.<\/p>\n

Grohl, meanwhile, took only a few seconds to name\u00a0Minor Threat<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Straight Edge\u2019, proclaiming that \u201cthese are too easy\u201d and saying \u201call you need to hear is the guitars and the tone\u201d. He went on to explain Minor Threat\u2019s importance to D.C.-area punk music and the foundation of Dischord Records.<\/p>\n

Later in the episode, Grohl also\u00a0made time\u00a0to wax lyrical about the\u00a0Melvins<\/a>, Void and even\u00a0Harry Belafonte<\/a>. Watch the whole episode above.<\/p>\n

Foo Fighters recently released their new album \u2018Your Favorite Toy\u2019,\u00a0which\u00a0NME\u00a0awarded three-and-a-half stars and noted<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cVocally, Grohl has rediscovered his roar, but lyricism has never been his strongest suit, and much of it here is throwaway; those looking for signs of where his head is at after his\u00a0infidelity scandal<\/a>\u00a0two years ago will be largely disappointed.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Your Favorite Toy\u2019 is a few more tracks of that depth away from being the most vital Foo Fighters record since 1997\u2019s \u2018The\u00a0Colour\u00a0and the Shape\u2019. For now, at least, they have remembered that no-frills punk, played fast and loud, suits them much better than middle-of-the-road dad-rock.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since it dropped, the band have revealed that they\u00a0were forced to rename their latest album<\/a>\u00a0because of\u00a0Wicked: For Good<\/a>, and are gearing up to head out on the road.<\/p>\n

They will be playing\u00a0a European stadium tour that is set to include two nights at Liverpool\u2019s Anfield Stadium<\/a>\u00a0at the end of June. They will also\u00a0be playing a range of major European shows<\/a>,\u00a0a North American stadium tour<\/a>, and have announced\u00a0an Australian and New Zealand tour for late 2026 and early 2027<\/a>.<\/p>\n
