Is the true scale higher?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 15 per cent of hospitals and long-term medical care facilities across <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/japan?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Japan<\/a> have recorded cases of sexual assault or abuse of patients, according to a new government report, as concerns mount that the actual figures may be higher.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The Children and Families Agency released the results of the survey \u2013 the first of its kind \u2013 on Tuesday, with 1,113 institutions of the 5,000 invited to take part providing responses.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Many of the incidents involved medical staff in psychiatry and psychosomatic departments at hospitals, or within the internal medical department.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Most \u2013 or 66.7 per cent \u2013 of the individuals who reported sexual abuse were aged between 19 and 39.
