{"id":471035,"date":"2026-05-06T09:45:12","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T09:45:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/471035\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T09:45:12","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T09:45:12","slug":"exercise-physiologists-campaign-to-axe-the-tax-on-their-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/471035\/","title":{"rendered":"Exercise physiologists campaign to &#8216;axe the tax&#8217; on their services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The peak body for exercise physiologists says its members are being discriminated against with &#8220;unfair&#8221; taxes that other health services do not have to pay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) has launched an &#8220;axe the tax&#8221; campaign to scrap the 10 per cent GST on exercise physiology.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Australian health services generally do not have to pay GST, but exercise physiology is not on the exemption list.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Brisbane exercise physiologist Tim Dogue said it was an outrageous tax on chronically ill Australians trying to improve their health.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Exercise physiologists are, I think, the only allied health profession that still has GST applicable to its services,&#8221; Mr Dogue said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It&#8217;s crazy when you consider we&#8217;re providing healthcare and essential services for a really important demographic of people with chronic diseases and comorbidities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Exercise physiologists use specific workouts to treat injuries, diabetes, arthritis, obesity, surgery rehabilitation, chronic pain, and various diseases.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A woman on a rowing machine\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/6662a1c1ae3dbc319dabbc617d4b9efd.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Jenny Dogue says she can go gardening once more.
