Canary Islands is still destination ‘at this stage’, Hondius operator sayspublished at 10:38 BST<\/p>\n

Hondius operator Oceanwide Expeditions has just published an update on the ship, which remains anchored off Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

It says the evacuation of three people from the ship to aircraft has not yet taken place, and is scheduled to happen this morning, local time. The WHO earlier said the evacuation was “ongoing”.<\/a><\/p>\n

The operator says two of the evacuees are showing acute symptoms and will be taken to medical and screening facilities once aboard the aircraft. <\/p>\n

The third “is closely associated with the guest who passed away on board” on 2 May 2026, Oceanwide says.<\/p>\n

The operator also says two infectious disease doctors from the Netherlands are en route to the ship and will remain with it after it departs Cape Verde. An additional medical professional is already on board.<\/p>\n

The company says, “at this stage”, the Canary Islands is still the destination for the Hondius following the medical evacuations.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the Canary Islands’ leader says he opposes letting the ship dock there.<\/p>\n

Oceanwide says it “remains in close and continual discussion with relevant authorities regarding our exact point of arrival, quarantine and screening procedures for all guests, and a precise timeline”.<\/p>\n
