Gerry \u2018The Monk\u2019 Hutch<\/a> has assets around the world worth at least \u20ac10 million, investigators believe.<\/p>\n

Hutch <\/a>(62), who is running for a seat in the Dail in the Dublin Central by-election, has connections to properties in Dublin, Spain, Turkey, Hungary, and London, sources say. He claims all these assets come from legitimate earnings over the years.<\/p>\n

The veteran gangland figure<\/a>, who recently told foreigners to bring their \u201ctoolbox\u201d if they want to work in Ireland, has styled himself as a property investor primarily abroad over the past few decades.<\/p>\n

He has also lived off a fortune garnered from investing in properties on Dublin\u2019s Buckingham Street and following an infamous \u00a31.2M tax bill settlement with the Criminal Assets Bureau back in the year 2000.<\/p>\n

Hutch <\/a>famously sold two properties on Buckingham Street at a profit, meaning the CAB was paid back its money, and he received the remaining reported \u00a3450,000 from the sale. Adjusted for inflation that profit would be worth well over \u20ac1.2M today.<\/p>\n

The settlement with the CAB was based around a then \u00a3300,000 bank account connected to Hutch in Newry, following ultimately unproven allegations that Hutch masterminded the multi-million pound Marino Mart robbery and Brinks Allied raids.<\/p>\n

The Monk also maintains ownership of his plush home at The Paddocks in leafy Clontarf, North Dublin – which is estimated to be worth in excess of \u20ac1 million. A similar house on the same street was recently put on the market with an asking price of \u20ac1,095,000.<\/p>\n

Hutch\u2019s Dublin family home<\/a>, where he immediately returned after being acquitted in April 2023 of the Regency Hotel murder of David Byrne, is located at the end of a small cul-de-sac, and enjoys significant privacy from potential prying eyes.<\/p>\n

Though he is clearly rich, Hutch maintains a low profile while in Ireland – primarily driving around on a bike or in an old Ford Focus.<\/p>\n

Aside from Ireland, the Irish Mirror understands that Hutch <\/a>is connected to at least three properties on the island of Lanzarote – and a further penthouse apartment in Fuengirola on the Spanish mainland.<\/p>\n

The Monk has most recently been residing at one of the addresses in the Puerto Del Carmen area of Lanzarote – a well enclosed three bedroom villa located in a relatively quiet area just outside of the town.<\/p>\n

However he also runs a property business which is connected to other properties – including a 100 square metre two bedroom apartment near the Playa Grande ocean beach front in Lanzarote.<\/p>\n

That apartment, which has a roof terrace, is understood to be among those assets recently frozen by Spanish authorities – who are investigating Hutch for alleged money laundering.<\/p>\n

The Fuengirola<\/a> apartment is located in the heart of the popular tourist town – and a mere seven minute walk from the Limincello Pizza restaurant, where Hutch was arrested over the Regency Hotel shooting back in 2021.<\/p>\n

Investigators also believe that Hutch has significant connections to properties in Turkey – where he spent some time while under threat from the Kinahan cartel. He also has connections to property in the UK, Hungary and historically even Florida the United States.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview with the Irish Times Hutch <\/a>acknowledged that he does own a number of properties. However he was unwilling to provide details – claiming he would only do so if he was elected to Dail Eireann<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do have properties and if I do get elected I\u2019ll be bringing in me big sheet with me properties on it and I\u2019ll be declaring everything. I\u2019ve no hidden agendas and it\u2019ll be guaranteed they\u2019ll get the truth out of me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll just answer straight off the hook. I don\u2019t go with the porky pies. If I\u2019m elected it\u2019s not private and I\u2019ll tell everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to say he would be \u201chappy to be the wealthiest TD in there,\u201d and said:<\/p>\n

\u201cOh I don\u2019t know, I\u2019ll have to have a talk with the Healy Rae\u2019s and we\u2019ll open our piggy banks together and see what\u2019s in them.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Hutch may have thought he settled matters with the CAB many years ago, it is now pursuing him for an alleged \u20ac800,000 in unpaid taxes between 2006 and 2010. He is currently fighting that decision with the Tax Appeals Commission.<\/p>\n

He is also still facing a major Spanish investigation which alleges he is the leader of a money laundering organisation in Lanzarote – a claim he denies. He was arrested in relation to the probe in October 2024 and was able to fork over a sum of E100,000 to secure his bail. The money was later paid back.<\/p>\n

His 37 year old son Jason is now being sought on the foot of a European Arrest Warrant issued from Ireland – and his lawyer has said money laundering is mentioned in that paperwork. Spain has also alleged Jason, who has not been charged with any offence here or there, played a key role in the \u2018Hutch Organised Crime Group.\u2019<\/p>\n

Gerry Hutch<\/a> remains under investigation in Spain while also facing a long-running Garda probe back in Ireland. Gardai have submitted a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) alleging Hutch should be charged with directing a criminal organisation.<\/p>\n
