Starring Archie Panjabi (who you may recognise from past roles across Doctor Who and Hijack, as well as the iconic 2002 movie Bend it Like Beckham) and Paul Kaye (<strong data-node-id=\"3.11\"\/>Small Prophets), the drama \u2013 which has been described as &#8220;gripping&#8221; \u2013 will unfold over one &#8220;relentless&#8221; night shift in a hospital. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"9\" class=\"css-18ljdn6 emevuu60\">Billed as an &#8220;intimate&#8221; drama, The Quiet Hour will centre on the character of Riya (played by Panjabi), described as a nurse &#8220;battling exhaustion, guilt, and the ghosts of past mistakes&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"13\" class=\"css-18ljdn6 emevuu60\">Paul Kaye will play the role of a character named Fred, who has been revealed to be &#8220;a combative amputee whose presence becomes one of the night&#8217;s most volatile challenges&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p><img draggable=\"true\" alt=\"archie panjabi, hijack\" title=\"Archie Panjabi, Hijack\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"3700\" height=\"2467\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/22785425-c295-43d7-83eb-e6a42bcbcd78.jpg\" class=\"css-0 e1g79fud0\"\/><\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"18\" class=\"css-18ljdn6 emevuu60\">The synopsis goes on to add that Riya will grapple with a number of challenges throughout the shift, including &#8220;a stream of emergencies&#8221; that go &#8220;from dying patients to a medical error that nearly costs a life&#8221;, and so &#8220;her professional composure begins to fracture&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"22\" class=\"css-18ljdn6 emevuu60\">&#8220;Haunted by a past she can&#8217;t quite escape and the growing distance from her teenage daughter, Riya&#8217;s night spirals into a raw reckoning with compassion, burnout, and the quiet heroism that holds the health service together,&#8221; the description concludes. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"26\" class=\"css-18ljdn6 emevuu60\">The drama has been written by Sarah Louise Madden, and directed by Margo Roe.  <\/p>\n<p><img draggable=\"true\" alt=\"ncuti gatwa, anita dobson, archie panjabi, doctor who season 2\" title=\"Ncuti Gatwa, Anita Dobson, Archie Panjabi, Doctor Who season 2\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"4743\" height=\"3162\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/2cda81fb-081a-41e6-8654-04d56b1c649a.jpg\" class=\"css-0 e1g79fud0\"\/><\/p>\n<p>BBC<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"32\" class=\"css-18ljdn6 emevuu60\">Elsewhere on Channel 5&#8217;s new Play for Today lineup is Wild, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalspy.com\/tv\/a71226026\/daniel-mays-new-channel-5-drama-wild\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.digitalspy.com\/tv\/a71226026\/daniel-mays-new-channel-5-drama-wild\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"a dramedy that has also been announced\" data-node-id=\"32.5\" class=\"body-link css-1gyyefe emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a dramedy that has also been announced<\/a> starring Daniel Mays (Line of Duty) and Amit Shah (Happy Valley).  <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"36\" class=\"css-18ljdn6 emevuu60\">The feature-length episode is set in Scotland, and will follow three friends on their annual camping trip, delving into &#8220;the line between adventure and recklessness, and how toxic masculinity has become a huge part of the epidemic decline in men&#8217;s mental health&#8221;, according to its synopsis. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"40\" class=\"css-18ljdn6 emevuu60\">In a statement that accompanied the news, Paul Testar, Commissioning Editor for 5, described the response to last year&#8217;s Play for Today&#8217;s films as &#8220;hugely encouraging&#8221;, adding that &#8220;this new line-up builds brilliantly on that success&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"44\" class=\"css-18ljdn6 emevuu60\"><strong data-node-id=\"44.0\">The Quiet Hour and Wild are coming soon to Channel 5.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"48\" class=\"css-18ljdn6 emevuu60\"><strong data-node-id=\"48.0\">The new edition of Living Legends, a 100-page all-colour celebration of Sir David Attenborough, is here!
