{"id":471600,"date":"2026-05-06T17:29:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T17:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/471600\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T17:29:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T17:29:09","slug":"temporary-train-station-costing-e3m-being-built-in-adare-for-ryder-cup-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/471600\/","title":{"rendered":"Temporary train station costing \u20ac3m being built in Adare for Ryder Cup \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Construction has started on a temporary train station in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/adare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/adare\/\">Adare<\/a> ahead of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/ryder-cup-2027\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/ryder-cup-2027\/\">Ryder Cup<\/a> taking place in the Co <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/limerick\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/limerick\/\">Limerick<\/a> village in September 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The station will \u201csupport thousands of spectators travelling to and from the Ryder Cup\u201d next year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/iarnrod-eireann\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/iarnrod-eireann\/\">Iarnr\u00f3d \u00c9ireann<\/a> said in a statement on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Construction of the temporary station, which will consist of a platform and external concourse, is expected to take six months. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The project will cost \u20ac3 million, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/irish-rail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/irish-rail\/\">Irish Rail<\/a> spokesman said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The station works are being funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/department-of-transport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/department-of-transport\/\">Department of Transport<\/a>, through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/national-transport-authority\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/national-transport-authority\/\">National Transport Authority<\/a> (NTA), and carried out by Cara Plant Hire Limited.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The construction of the temporary station is happening alongside works to reinstate the Limerick to Foynes freight line, which is expected to be complete in October 2026 with freight services starting to operate in early 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Iarnr\u00f3d \u00c9ireann is \u201cworking closely with the NTA to support the overall NTA public transport plan for the Ryder Cup,\u201d a spokesman said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cIt is likely that the Ryder Cup special rail services will operate outside of regular timetable hours and will utilise existing train fleet, running a shuttle service between Limerick Junction and Adare on the reinstated Foynes rail line,\u201d a statement noted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe shuttle will meet trains from Dublin and Cork at Limerick Junction where passengers can interchange, supporting thousands of spectators in getting to and from the venue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/politics\/2026\/04\/22\/ryder-cup-499-admission-price-a-matter-for-organisers-minister-for-sport-says\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryder Cup: \u20ac499 admission price \u2018a matter for organisers\u2019, Minister for Sport saysOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Efforts are also being made to improve road facilities in the area in advance of the Ryder Cup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Plans to fast-track the Adare bypass, which is part of the wider Foynes to Limerick road project, were approved in November 2023. The Government is investing approximately \u20ac150 million to deliver the bypass, which will comprise about 7km of new motorway from Croagh to Adare.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The bypass is due to be completed by June 2027, before the Ryder Cup the following September. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Minister for Transport Darragh O\u2019Brien previously said the Adare bypass \u201cwill greatly reduce congestion, air pollution and noise\u201d in the town.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Speaking last year, O\u2019Brien said his department and Transport Infrastructure Ireland \u201cwill be working closely with Limerick City and County Council and all other stakeholders, with the objective of delivering the bypass in advance of the [Ryder Cup], which will have a significant and positive impact on the local area in terms of economy and tourism\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/2026\/04\/12\/40000-for-a-bungalow-in-nenagh-ryder-cup-brings-wishful-thinking-from-the-locals\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u20ac40,000 for a bungalow in Nenagh?
