May 6 (Reuters) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday acknowledged ongoing supply disruptions of certain \u200csterile pads, sponges and strips used in neurosurgery, warning \u200cthe shortage could last through the end of 2026.<\/p>\n

\u2022 \u200bThe agency said it has added neurosurgical patties, sponges and strips \u2014 used during neurosurgery and microsurgery to absorb fluid and protect delicate tissue \u2014 to its medical device shortages list.<\/p>\n
\u2022 In \u200cMarch, one of the \u2060manufacturers, Medline Industries, recalled neurosurgical patties in its neuro sponge line over elevated endotoxin levels, with \u2060no return date set, the FDA said.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Use of affected products could lead to health problems requiring medical or surgical \u200btreatment, including \u200bfever, inflammation, low blood pressure \u200bor nausea, the FDA \u200csaid.<\/p>\n
