Photo: Getty<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom0 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Eir\u2019s budget brand, GoMo, is launching a cut-price fibre broadband service with no contract in an attempt to undercut the market in the same way that its mobile service did in 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">The Eir-owned service is promising a \u20ac30-per-month fibre broadband line \u201cfor life\u201d for the first 10,000 orders made by current GoMo mobile subscribers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">The GoMo broadband service will be charged in a similar way to its mobile service, making it the only fixed-line broadband service not to require an initial lengthy contract.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">However, the company has said it will also charge a \u20ac50 activation fee \u2013 making it more expensive than rival operator Sky for those who stay with the service for a year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Eir says that the 500Mbs service will also be limited to those in its own \u201cEir fibre-to-the-home (FTTH)  footprint\u201d, which covers 1.5 million premises across the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">It means that the service will not be available to those in rural areas served by the National Broadband Plan, as that is a different fibre network.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Asked about installation, the company said: \u201cDependent on the specific home, if they are not already on the FTTH network then an engineer will install at no extra cost. If they are already on the FTTH network, it\u2019s a simple self-install.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"GoMo undercut the mobile market in 2019. By comparison, GoMo\u2019s promotional pricing will cost \u20ac410 for the first year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">However, Sky\u2019s service price doubles after the end of the 12-month contract to \u20ac64 per month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">For those consumers willing to commit to a two-year contract, Virgin and Sky now cost the same for a 500Mbs deal, at \u20ac35 per month for 24 months, or \u20ac840 for the contract period.
