The Met Gala 2026 theme may have celebrated \u201cCostume Art,\u201d<\/a> but one high-powered costume designer wasn\u2019t impressed.<\/p>\n

Legendary costumer Molly Rogers \u2014 who worked on \u201cSex and the City\u201d and all its spinoffs, as well as on both \u201cThe Devil Wears Prada\u201d movies \u2014 spoke on a panel at Fashionphile<\/a>\u2018s New York flagship Wednesday morning, spilling secrets from set and admonishing those who attended the Jeff Bezos-sponsored ball.<\/p>\n

Emily Blunt\u2019s character, who dates a billionaire fashioned after Bezos, was seemingly inspired by Lauren S\u00e1nchez. Getty Images for The Met Museum\/Vogue<\/p>\n

\u201cI would not have gone,\u201d Rogers declared. \u201cI am disappointed in people who did go. I know Meryl [Streep] did not go. I know others from our cast went, which is their prerogative.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anne Hathaway<\/a>, Emily Blunt<\/a> and Stanley Tucci all hit the red carpet Monday night \u2014\u00a0as did Streep\u2019s actress daughters, Grace Gummer and LouisaJacobson.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the real artistry was the guy who was protesting outside,\u201d added Rogers, when asked about the night\u2019s \u201cFashion Is Art\u201d dress code.<\/p>\n

Panel host Amy Odell<\/a> clarified that Rogers was referring to Chris Smalls<\/a>, the Amazon Labor Union leader who was arrested in a commotion<\/a> during his protest at the bottom of the Met steps.<\/p>\n

Rogers then skewered Bezos\u2019s bride and her custom red carpet gown<\/a>, quipping: \u201cHow did she make Schiaparelli look so cheap?!\u201d<\/p>\n

Rogers pointed out that Meryl Streep was not in attendance, despite appearing on the cover of the May issue of Vogue. Walt Disney Studios<\/p>\n

Many Met regulars skipped this year\u2019s ball<\/a>, including Zendaya, Bella Hadid, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lady Gaga and Emily Ratajkowski. In April, a source told Page Six that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani would not attend, because\u00a0\u201cit goes against everything he believes in.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Streep has never been to the Met Gala, though she did appear on the May cover of Vogue \u2014 which is typically reserved for one of the event\u2019s celebrity co-chairs \u2014\u00a0posing with Anna Wintour herself<\/a> ahead of the theatrical release of \u201cDevil Wears Prada 2.\u201d<\/p>\n

Page Six exclusively reported that S\u00e1nchez and Bezos paid at least $10 million<\/a> to sponsor the event, an amount that also earned them the titles of honorary co-chairs.<\/p>\n

Beyonc\u00e9, Venus Williams and Nicole Kidman all served as co-hosts alongside Wintour this year.<\/p>\n

The museum\u2019s 2026 fashion benefit raised a record $42 million<\/a>, up from last year\u2019s record-breaking $31 million. All funds raised support the Anna Wintour Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.<\/p>\n
