{"id":474813,"date":"2026-05-08T13:18:23","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T13:18:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/474813\/"},"modified":"2026-05-08T13:18:23","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T13:18:23","slug":"hearts-ann-wilson-talks-about-her-new-solo-documentary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/474813\/","title":{"rendered":"Heart&#8217;s Ann Wilson Talks About Her New Solo Documentary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/ann-wilson\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ann-wilson\" data-tag=\"ann-wilson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ann Wilson<\/a> has been penning poetry lately. \u201cI consider myself to be a lyricist, now, especially,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/heart\/\" id=\"auto-tag_heart\" data-tag=\"heart\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Heart<\/a> singer, 75, says. \u201cI\u2019m really getting off on writing poetry and prose.\u201d That practice has found its way into lyrics for new music tracing her life\u2019s journey, which has become the subject of a new documentary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWhen she calls Rolling Stone, Wilson is days away from the premiere of Ann Wilson \u2014 In My Voice and just a few hours before a screening of the film at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. Following the debut of the documentary on May 11, she will embark on a nine-city screening and live Q&amp;A tour that will take her and director Barbara Hall from Seattle to Boston. In the fall, Wilson and her band Tripsitter will begin a North American tour that will wrap in October.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWhen asked how she\u2019s feeling about returning to the road, she easily replies, \u201cI love it. I\u2019m addicted to it, to be honest, and that\u2019s where I feel the most alive \u2014 when I\u2019m onstage. That\u2019s where I feel like I can really express myself and not worry about anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWhile she spent decades blazing trails in <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/heart-2024-tour-nancy-ann-wilson-1235017479\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/heart-2024-tour-nancy-ann-wilson-1235017479\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Heart<\/a> with her sister Nancy, In My Voice will focus on Wilson\u2019s individual story, from her childhood in Seattle to her evolution as one of the greatest vocalists and songwriters in rock history. Told in her own words, the documentary draws from a personal archive of home footage, photographs, and journals, and goes back to the days when the Wilson sisters were known as \u201cLittle Led Zeppelin.\u201d The film also features interviews with bandmates, family, and artists like <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/chappell-roan\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/chappell-roan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chappell Roan<\/a> and <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/kiss\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/kiss\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kiss<\/a>\u2018 <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/paul-stanley\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/paul-stanley\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Stanley<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI believe that in my career and in my life, people have a really hard time separating me from Heart, and you know, you can\u2019t blame them,\u201d Wilson says. \u201cIt\u2019s been my life\u2019s work. But this is an opportunity for them to know me apart from Heart, apart from music, even \u2014 just the things that have happened to me and the journeys I\u2019ve been through now as an older woman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cNothing But Love,\u201d which she wrote in the Nineties with Burt Bacharach, showcases Wilson\u2019s ability to elevate lyrics with her own unique potency. The song, which will be part of the film\u2019s soundtrack, \u201cnever saw the light of day until now,\u201d Ann says. \u201cI\u2019ve always really liked it, but it didn\u2019t fit with what was going on in the 1990s at all. It\u2019s just so unlike what was going on at that moment, but it seems natural now. It\u2019s got some soul to it. It\u2019s something that I love hearing, and I love singing. I hope people really get lifted by it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWilson says in the film that her sister declined to take part in the documentary, adding with a smile that Nancy has \u201cher own stories to tell, in her own voice.\u201d Thinking about their life together in our interview, she adds, \u201cI think people really latched onto the whole idea of my sister and I as being the core of the group. So it was really interesting when we wanted to do things separately. That was a big part of the journey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAnn and Nancy punched through a rock scene in the Seventies that was predominately led by males. \u201cThis phenomenon would happen where you would build yourself up and do something really great, and you\u2019d feel really good about it. Then you could get put down and squashed down very easily by the rest of the men,\u201d she recalls. \u201cThey could make you feel like you were really silly for even trying. We were lucky enough to have great people around us, but I know other women who were starting up close to our time that had to rebel as hard as they could to get anything happening at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWhen asked if there were parts of the film that shifted the way she saw her own story, she replies, \u201cI was surprised by a lot of things \u2014 by how funny, cheerful, and jokey I used to be when I was younger. Now, I feel more serious about life. Not sad, I\u2019m more philosophic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\tRelated Content<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWhile pinpointing when that change happened, she muses, \u201cGrowing and aging, falling in love, having children, all the things that life gives to you that require your serious attention. Sometimes when you\u2019re a lot younger, you just go, \u2018Oh, life\u2019s just so wonderful,\u2019 and you don\u2019t think about it that much. But then as time goes along, things get put in your lap that really make you focus. And I think that\u2019s kind of what has helped me mature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn July 2024, Ann revealed that she was undergoing cancer treatment and that Heart would have to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/heart-2024-tour-nancy-ann-wilson-1235017479\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">postpone<\/a>\u00a0their remaining North American tour dates at the time. The following September, she shared that she had completed her chemotherapy treatment and was ready to tour again. Then, she broke her arm in three places after falling in a parking lot. The film shows her triumphant return to the stage during Heart\u2019s resumed Royal Flush Tour last year, performing in a wheelchair and without her wig. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cThat\u2019s so rockstar of her to be like, \u2018Fuck you, I have a broken arm. I\u2019m going onstage and ripping off my wig,&#8217;\u201d Roan says in the doc. \u201cThat\u2019s, to me, punk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI went through a serious health journey with cancer and came through the other side of it clear,\u201d Wilson says. \u201cI feel fabulous now. I\u2019m probably two years out from it. And of course, you know, I\u2019m on that regimen where every few months you go in for a CAT scan to make sure everything\u2019s still OK. I feel really good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWilson is hopeful about the next generation of artists. She praises Roan and Lucy Dacus, who have both been on her podcast\u00a0After Dinner Thinks, which she hosts with her friend Criss Cain. \u201cI saw a couple of young women who just know where they\u2019re going. They\u2019re both very young, and they\u2019re already at this amazing point in their careers.
