{"id":475450,"date":"2026-05-08T22:52:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T22:52:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/475450\/"},"modified":"2026-05-08T22:52:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T22:52:15","slug":"ke-tao-chinas-remote-sensing-expert-who-was-devoted-to-national-defence-dies-at-48","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/475450\/","title":{"rendered":"Ke Tao, China\u2019s remote sensing expert who was \u2018devoted\u2019 to national defence, dies at 48"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>China\u2019s top remote sensing expert Ke Tao died from an illness on Wednesday at the age of 48, according to an obituary from <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/wuhan-university-china?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Wuhan University<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cComrade Ke Tao made outstanding achievements in national defence science and technology and remote sensing mapping,\u201d the obituary released on Thursday by the university\u2019s School of Remote Sensing and Information Engineering said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Ke, a professor at the school, completed his undergraduate through doctoral degrees there before joining the faculty in 2008.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In 2015, as an associate professor, he received a top military scientific advancement award for his research on an unnamed key technology, according to his university profile.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Rather than relying on direct physical contact, remote sensing uses technology to observe and analyse phenomena from a distance.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Ke\u2019s particular expertise was photogrammetry and its application to aerospace, aviation, and in low-altitude, close-range environments.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Photogrammetry is essentially the art of taking measurements from pictures.
