{"id":476289,"date":"2026-05-09T11:41:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T11:41:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/476289\/"},"modified":"2026-05-09T11:41:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T11:41:11","slug":"bytedance-raises-2026-capex-by-at-least-25-amid-ai-boom-rising-memory-costs-sources-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/476289\/","title":{"rendered":"ByteDance raises 2026 capex by at least 25% amid AI boom, rising memory costs, sources say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">TikTok owner ByteDance is ramping up its spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure, boosting its planned capital expenditure this year to more than 200 billion yuan (US$30 billion), according to two people familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">This represented an increase of at least 25 per cent compared with a preliminary plan discussed late last year that proposed AI capex of 160 billion yuan, they said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The increase was necessary because of the company\u2019s growing commitment to AI, as well as rising memory chip costs, one of the people said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Notably, ByteDance has allocated a proportionally larger budget to domestic AI chips, now a common practice among Chinese tech companies to mitigate geopolitical risks and to heed Beijing\u2019s call to use more domestic semiconductors.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A screenshot of the Doubao AI chatbot from ByteDance.
