Behind every great night out in Cork city,<\/a> there’s the pub staff who work long into the night to make sure that the drinks keep coming and that everything runs smoothly, so customers can enjoy themselves. Many are more than happy to leave a few bob in tips for staff at the end of the night, which can serve as a nice little bonus for the folks working what can be a challenging job.<\/p>\n

This week, that little end-of-night bonus was snatched away from the hard-working staff at a well-known Cork city pub<\/a> after a customer was spotted swiping it off the counter.<\/p>\n

Fionnbarra on Douglas Street is known for its great selection of drinks, colourful beer garden and top-class pizzas, all of which help attract a healthy crowd heading into the weekend. Unfortunately, Friday night ended in disappointment for the staff after they discovered their tip jar had been snatched in the middle of their shift.<\/p>\n

Management checked the CCTV footage, which shows a woman walking up to the bar, picking up the tip jar, and gesturing towards a nearby table. From there, the woman places it back on the counter, then appears to slip the jar into her coat before walking away.<\/p>\n

The footage was shared on the bar’s social media channels this afternoon, with management describing the theft as a ‘very disappointing’ end to a great evening. The footage has been edited to obscure the identity of the tip jar thief, but management said they have ‘plenty more’ footage to share with Garda\u00ed if necessary.<\/p>\n

However, rather than going to the Garda\u00ed straight away, the thief has a chance to make amends with staff at Fionbarra, who have requested that the tup jar be returned. If it isn’t returned to the pub soon, the unedited footage will be handed over to the guards.<\/p>\n

It’s not the first time staff at the popular bar have had to issue an appeal on social media<\/a> to get something returned to them. Back in 2022, a similar message was shared by Fionnbarra after a staff member’s coat was nicked from the premises<\/p>\n
