Fire crews<\/a> are continuing to tackle a blaze at a waste management site in Co Down on Monday morning<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The fire broke out on Sunday evening, with a large amount of black smoke seen billowing from the Irish Waste site on the Hillsborough Road in Carryduff<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) said that crews from across parts of Down and Antrim were deployed to tackle the fire at around 9.45pm. <\/p>\n

\u201cLocal residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed, and members of the public are asked to avoid the area to support firefighting operations,\u201d a spokesperson said on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Belfast South MLA Katie Nicholl<\/a> described as \u201cvery concerning\u201d the images of the Irish waste facility on fire.<\/p>\n

She said it is a \u201cmassive blaze\u201d and her \u201cthoughts with the fire brigade who are dealing with it right now\u201d.<\/p>\n

Local Councillor Brian Higginson said he was aware of the fire at the site and advised people to take care when passing along the Hillsborough Road. <\/p>\n

Irish Waste, a decades-old company recently acquired by Enva, operates across three sites in Northern Ireland. <\/p>\n
