Regulatory sandbox guidelines aimed at supporting innovation and encouraging private sector participation are also expected to be introduced.

The approvals form part of wider electricity reforms initiated after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu signed the Lagos Electricity Bill into law in 2024, creating the legal framework for the state’s independent electricity market.

The law replaced the Lagos State Power Sector Reform Law of 2018 and granted LASERC authority to regulate electricity generation, distribution, and tariffs within the state.

In March 2026, the Lagos State Government inaugurated the LASERC board, marking the beginning of full operational leadership for electricity reforms.

The reforms also follow the Federal Government’s 2023 approval allowing states to independently generate and distribute electricity.

In April 2026, Lagos signed Power Purchase Agreements and concession deals with three independent power producers as part of plans to increase generation capacity from below 60MW to between 200MW and 400MW in the coming years.

Stakeholders say the reforms are expected to strengthen Lagos’ electricity supply system while improving transparency, accountability, and long-term market stability.

The Lagos State Government has approved 14 electricity licences and permits covering off-grid generation, embedded generation, independent electricity…

[178
80388,209850,134417,82052,121441,79,128169,209851,11148,18,236,18421,209852,19,3536,17,14475,193883,85503
0":"post-479280","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-entrepreneurship","8":"tag-afcfta","9":"tag-africabusiness","10":"tag-africanentrepreneurs","11":"tag-africanstartups","12":"tag-agritech","13":"tag-business","14":"tag-businessgrowth","15":"tag-digitalplatforms","16":"tag-ecommerce","17":"tag-eire","18":"tag-entrepreneurship","19":"tag-fintech","20":"tag-globalmarkets","21":"tag-ie","22":"tag-innovation","23":"tag-ireland","24":"tag-logistics","25":"tag-startupacceleration","26":"tag-startupfunding
["GET
