{"id":480126,"date":"2026-05-12T02:00:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T02:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/480126\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T02:00:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T02:00:20","slug":"ukraine-and-russia-accuse-each-other-of-breaking-ceasefire-world-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/480126\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine and Russia accuse each other of breaking ceasefire | World News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of breaking a US-brokered ceasefire between the warring nations.<\/p>\n<p>US President <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/donald-trump-5711\/1\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a> said on Friday the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/three-day-ceasefire-between-russia-and-ukraine-announced-13541685\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">three-day ceasefire<\/a><\/strong> would run from 9 May to 11 May.<\/p>\n<p>But <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/ukraine-6556\/1\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ukrainian<\/a><\/strong> officials said at least three people had been killed in Russian strikes over the past 24 hours, with one death each in the regions of Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kherson.<\/p>\n<p>            <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/skynews-ivor-bennett-russia_7243560.jpg\"  class=\"ui-video-player-poster-image\" alt=\"\" data-testid=\"video-player-poster-image\"\/><\/p>\n<p>    Share<\/p>\n<p>\n                    Russia scales down annual military parade\n                <\/p>\n<p>In the northeast region of Kharkiv, governor Oleh Syniehubov said eight people, including two children, were wounded in drone attacks on the regional capital and nearby settlements.<\/p>\n<p>Seven more, including another child, were injured in the Kherson region by drone or artillery attacks, according to local governor Oleksandr Prokudin.<\/p>\n<p>Russian attacks on the southeastern Dnipropetrovsk region had also left a child wounded and infrastructure damaged, said regional head, Oleksandr Hanzha.<\/p>\n<p>Another attack in the region targeted a rescue vehicle, wounding its 23-year-old driver, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine said.<\/p>\n<p>Kyiv&#8217;s air forces said Russia had launched 27 long-range drones at Ukraine overnight, lower than usual, but that air defences had downed all of them.<\/p>\n<p>And Ukraine&#8217;s General Staff said 147 clashes had taken place along the front line.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more:<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/more-than-100-cruise-ship-passengers-on-caribbean-princess-taken-ill-with-norovirus-13542153\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">More than 100 cruise passengers taken ill with norovirus<\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/at-least-15-injured-after-boat-explosion-in-florida-13542181\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">At least 15 injured after boat explosion in Florida<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Russia likewise accused Ukraine of violating the ceasefire by launching drones and artillery attacks, according to the Interfax news agency.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday morning, Russia shot down 57 Ukrainian drones, its defence ministry said, while insisting that Moscow had observed the ceasefire.<\/p>\n<p>     <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/download-app\" target=\"blank\" data-tracking-label=\"ui-app-promo-download-link\" class=\"ui-app-promo sdc-article-widget\" data-type=\"\" data-component-name=\"ui-app-promo\" data-testid=\"app-promo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><\/p>\n<p>    <\/a><\/p>\n<p>It added that Russian troops had &#8220;responded in kind&#8221; to Ukraine&#8217;s actions, launching attacks with multiple launch rocket systems and mortars.<\/p>\n<p>It comes after the failure of broader efforts to end the conflict, which has been running for more than four years.<\/p>\n<p>          <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"sdc-article-image__item\" loading=\"lazy\" intrinsicsize=\"768x432\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/skynews-zelenskyy-russia_7244271.jpg\"   alt=\"Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Pic: Reuters<\/p>\n<p>Ukrainian officials, however, have not publicly commented on any violations of the ceasefire, which was also meant to include a swap of 1,000 prisoners of war from each side.<\/p>\n<p>Russia and Ukraine had each announced separate ceasefires, starting Friday and Wednesday respectively, but soon accused each other of breaking them.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, as Russia celebrated Victory Day, its annual Second World War commemoration, with a scaled-back parade, President Vladimir Putin said he <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/putin-says-ukraine-war-likely-to-end-soon-despite-ukrainian-battlefield-gains-13542111\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">believed the Ukraine war was coming to an end<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of breaking a US-brokered ceasefire between the warring nations.
