\n\tStrike Force Five<\/a> assemble! <\/p>\n

\n\tMonday night\u2019s episode of The Late Show<\/a> saw the late-night<\/a> Voltron come together once more with host Stephen Colbert<\/a> joined by The Tonight Show\u2018s Jimmy Fallon<\/a>, Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> Live!\u2018s Jimmy Kimmel, Late Night\u2018s Seth Meyers<\/a> and Last Week Tonight\u2018s John Oliver<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n\tIntroducing \u201cfour of his best television friends,\u201d Colbert welcomed his late-night rivals\/peers\/friends\/contemporaries\/well-wishers with a group hug. The quintet recalled the last time they all spent time together, for Colbert\u2019s birthday two years ago. Colbert remarked that the five of them together was \u201cdangerous\u201d and that it meant The Daily Show\u2018s Jon Stewart was now the \u201cdesignated survivor.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs the hosts bantered \u2014 Kimmel quipped that he understood why Colbert\u2019s show lost \u201c$40 million dollars\u201d as there\u2019s \u201ctoo many people in the band\u201d \u2014 they settled into an interesting existential discussion about late night. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cLate night is a bit of weird spot,\u201d said Colbert remarking that while he was going through his struggles with CBS over the Late Show, he was constantly asked to \u201cmake a case for late night\u201d to continue existing. Opening the discussion, he asked his peers to \u201cmake the case for late night.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cLook at the figures, and the fact of the matter is more people are watching late night television now,\u201d Kimmel said noting that people watch in different ways now not just broadcast, including YouTube. \u201cPeople have a lot of different options, and yet they still keep coming to us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tKimmel added, \u201cWhen I got knocked off the air for a few days, people canceled Disney+.\u201d He then pointed at Colbert\u2019s audience and jokingly asked: \u201cWhy aren\u2019t you people canceling Paramount+? Because you didn\u2019t have it in the first place?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFeigning concern, potentially future Paramount employee Oliver interjected, \u201cJimmy, until the [Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery] deal goes through, if I could just do a counter: Paramount+ might have some good programming\u2026 Unless it\u2019s not going through, in which case it can go fuck itself now and forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhy should you have to defend late night? Why should that question even be asked?,\u201d Kimmel asked Colbert. \u201cLike Ryan Seacrest doesn\u2019t get asked [about] The Wheel of Fortune or whatever the hell he\u2019s hosting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOliver replied, \u201cI would actually like to hear Ryan Seaquest defend Wheel of Fortune\u2026 Like someone that\u2019s next to me saying \u2018defend Wheel of Fortune\u2018s right to exist\u2019 and I am gonna be leaning forward waiting for what he says.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cLate night is one of those things that\u2019s been around our whole lives where it kind of it\u2019s just part of our lives,\u201d said Fallon. \u201cI never thought it was a job when I was growing up. I just thought Johnny Carson came with the television set. People wanna go to sleep, having a good laugh and go to bed happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tColbert then asked, \u201cDid you guys, when you were younger, especially when you\u2019re starting out in comedy, did it ever occur to you that you\u2019d be doing a job that the president of the United States would have strong feelings about?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou know what\u2019s even weirder, we\u2019re doing a job that his wife has strong feelings about it,\u201d quipped Kimmel referring to Melania Trump\u2019s recent attempts to get him fired.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMost of us have avoided that part,\u201d joked Meyers.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe interview ended with a game, with the five hosts revealing who is most likely to not watch a movie of a guest, most likely to make out with a guest, most likely to cry, and who had the highest rating on Wikifeet. For reference, Colbert had the best feet and he dropped sock and revealed toe. <\/p>\n

\n\tAlso on the Late Show, the comedy quintet revealed that they will reunite for a special emergency episode of Strike Force Five in honor of the series finale of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert<\/a>. Proceeds will benefit World Central Kitchen, the nonprofit that provides meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises around the world.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Strike Force Five podcast<\/a> came into existence during the duel Hollywood strikes in 2023. The five late night comedians came together for the limited 12-episode run pod on Spotify to raise money for their respective out-of-work staffs. The podast, which featured candid conversations between the five, was a huge success.<\/p>\n
