Pop singer Rebecca Black<\/a> has the time any day \u2014 not just on Friday \u2014 to respond to 15-year-old criticism from Michael biopic star Jaafar Jackson<\/a>.<\/p>\n In a comical new post on X, the “Friday” singer and internet personality clapped back to a 2011 social media message Jackson shared after Black rose to digital notoriety with her breakout single, which was largely lampooned at the time but has since grown into a beloved internet meme amid the singer’s reinvention as an edgy dance-pop artist.<\/p>\n Over the weekend, Black quoted a post from Jackson, nephew of the late Michael Jackson<\/a>, who wrote, “Roses are red, violets are blue, if Rebecca Black wins ANY awards, Kanye you know what to do.”<\/p>\n “Alright but u were fierce in michael tho,” Black replied to Jackson’s clear nod to Kanye West<\/a>‘s infamous 2009 MTV VMAs moment, which saw the rapper interrupt Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech to praise Beyonc\u00e9.<\/p>\n After sharing her initial response, Black clarified her intention in a subsequent post on Sunday.<\/p>\n “Guys i\u2019m just having fun after catching a literal decade old stray <3 happy mother\u2019s day,” the 28-year-old wrote.<\/p>\n It is unclear which awards ceremony Jackson referenced in his initial message, which was posted in March 2011.<\/p>\n That year, Black was nominated for an MTV O Music Award for Favorite Animated GIF, and she later competed for a Teen Choice Award for Choice Web Star in August 2011, five months after Jackson’s initial message.<\/p>\n Get your daily dose of entertainment news, celebrity updates, and what to watch with\u00a0our\u00a0EW Dispatch newsletter<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n Though Black rose to internet notoriety with “Friday,” she has since reinvented her image and musical output to fit a darker, edgier aesthetic.<\/p>\n In particular, the star’s 2023 album Let Her Burn drew moderate critical praise, as did her 2025 LP Salvation.<\/p>\n Jackson recently found success for portraying his uncle in the blockbuster biopic Michael, which has thus far grossed around $578 million at the global box office and counting.<\/p>\n
