Greek television channel SKAI said late Monday it had suspended the broadcast of reality show Survivor after a contestant was seriously injured in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean, where the game is taking place.<\/p>\n
\u201cSKAI has been informed of the serious accident that the Survivor contestant had in the Dominican Republic and expresses its regret and full support to him and his family,\u201d the TV channel said in a press release.<\/p>\n
\u201cDespite the fact that the production of Survivor is carried out exclusively under the control and responsibility of Acun Medya, SKAI is closely monitoring developments on the participant\u2019s health and will contribute in every possible way to his treatment, as well as to any hospitalization and rehabilitation care that may be required,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n
Acun Media said that, according to information so far, the accident took place when a tourist boat heading to Saona Island on a tourist excursion accidentally hit the Greek national who was diving with a speargun during a break from filming. The production company provided assistance and safely transported the injured man to a local hospital where he remains \u201cin a serious but stable condition.\u201d<\/p>\n
A local news outlet said the Greek national, who was fishing without a surface marker buoy, suffered serious injuries to his legs.<\/p>\n
The local Navy is investigating the causes of the incident.<\/p>\n
Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis said later on Tuesday the contestant had a \u201cvery serious injury\u201d and was \u201cnot in a condition to be transferred,\u201d leaving, however, the option open if the relatives request it.<\/p>\n
