\n\tThis summer, Green Day<\/a> fans will feel like they\u2019ve been welcomed to paradise. <\/p>\n

\n\tInaugural Entertainment is set to release Nimrods<\/a> theatrically on Aug. 14, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Mason Thames<\/a>, Mckenna Grace<\/a>, Jenna Fischer<\/a>, Angela Kinsey, Sean Gunn, Bobby Lee and Fred Armisen<\/a> star in the movie that hails from Live Nation Studios and was previously known as New Years Rev<\/a> when it premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tNimrods\u00a0is a coming-of-age film centering on three high school friends who set out on a wild road trip under the mistaken assumption that their fledgling band has been booked to open for Green Day on New Year\u2019s Eve. The story is based on Green Day\u2019s real-life adventures while living in a van before the success of\u00a0Dookie, their 1994 Grammy-winning major label debut album that has since been certified as double-diamond.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition to releasing the film\u2019s poster, which can be seen below, Inaugural announced a partnership with fan-owned entertainment company Legion M. Fans can invest in the Legion M Film Fund, which helps finance the marketing and distribution of Nimrods and other titles. The fund kicked off with last year\u2019s comedy Fackham Hall<\/a>, which Legion M co-released with Bleecker Street. <\/p>\n

\n\tKylr Coffman, Ryan Foust, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio and Keen Ruffalo round out the cast. Kirk, who previously directed Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong<\/a> in Universal\u2019s 2016 release Ordinary World, helmed Nimrods from his own script that he developed with the band. The title references Nimrod, Green Day\u2019s 1997 album that featured such singles as \u201cGood Riddance (Time of Your Life)\u201d and went double-platinum. <\/p>\n

\n\tServing as producers for Nimrods are Green Day members Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool, alongside Tim Perell for Process. Executive producers include Ryan Kroft and Michael Rapino for Live Nation Studios, in addition to Jonathan Daniel.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring an\u00a0interview with\u00a0THR<\/a>\u00a0timed to the movie\u2019s TIFF premiere, Armstrong praised his own chemistry with Kirk on their 2016 film and also gave credit to Thames for doing a \u201cheartfelt job\u201d with the new project.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to do a Green Day film,\u201d Armstrong said at the time. \u201cGod, ever since the beginning, just all my heroes have always done films, whether it was\u00a0Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll High School\u00a0by the Ramones or [the Beatles\u2019]\u00a0A Hard Day\u2019s Night, the Who\u2019s\u00a0Quadrophenia. I just wanted to do the same thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
