Barry Keoghan has said he wants to “let my work speak for me” as he returns to the Cannes Film Festival with his latest film.<\/p>\n
The Dublin actor told Variety that he wants to move into a new chapter of his life following recent public scrutiny.<\/p>\n
“I want to step into a new chapter of my life where I let my work speak for me,” he said.<\/p>\n
Keoghan is returning to Cannes for a third time with Butterfly Jam, the new film from Kantemir Balagov, which opens the Directors’ Fortnight competition.<\/p>\n
The film is set among the Circassian community in Newark and stars Keoghan and Riley Keough as siblings running a struggling diner. Newcomer Talha Akdogan plays Keoghan\u2019s teenage son.<\/p>\n
Keoghan told Variety that the project came about after he contacted Balagov to praise his 2019 film Beanpole.<\/p>\n
“He totally smashed it with that film, so I reached out to say ‘incredible job,\u2019 and we just kept in touch,” he said.<\/p>\n
The actor previously attended Cannes with Yorgos Lanthimos\u2019 The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Andrea Arnold\u2019s Bird.<\/p>\n
He is also currently filming Sam Mendes\u2019 The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, in which he plays Ringo Starr.<\/p>\n
Keoghan gave little away about the Beatles project, but described it as “gonna be iconic” and “part of history”.<\/p>\n
Keoghan, who was Oscar-nominated for The Banshees of Inisherin and won a BAFTA for the role, said he is now choosing his projects carefully.<\/p>\n
