In 2018, they co-founded <a class=\"transition-colors duration-default shadow-externalLink hover:text-red-1\" href=\"https:\/\/studiotwentyseven.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Studiotwentyseven<\/a>, a design gallery dedicated to contemporary and experimental works, with spaces in Miami, New York and London. Their collection includes pieces by Yoshitomo Nara, Rashid Johnson, George Condo, Paola Pivi and Claudia Comte. They have loaned pieces to institutional exhibitions at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid and Macro: Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome. We were immediately drawn to his use of bent-wood canvases. They sit somewhere between painting and sculpture, which we\u2019ve always found compelling. There\u2019s a quiet tension in his work, especially in how he handles colour, that really stayed with us and ultimately shaped how we think about collecting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\"><strong class=\"font-medium\">What was the most recent work you\u00a0bought?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">Most recently, we acquired Nine Women 5 (2009) by Alex Katz. We\u2019ve admired his work for a long time; there\u2019s something so confident and clear about his approach. It feels both timeless and very present. We\u2019re excited to finally\u00a0have a piece by him as part of our collection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\"><strong class=\"font-medium\">How quickly do you decide to buy a work of art?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">Usually quite quickly. It\u2019s a pretty instinctive process. There\u2019s often an immediate connection that\u2019s hard to explain. We were shown a few beautiful works but didn\u2019t move quickly enough. His work has such a strong physical presence and energy. It really stays with you. Missing that opportunity has definitely made us more aware of acting on instinct.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\"><strong class=\"font-medium\">If you could have any work from\u00a0any museum in the world, what would it be?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">Any work by Jean-Michel Basquiat from the Broad in Los Angeles. His work still feels incredibly alive\u2014layered, expressive and full of meaning. What we actually enjoy is the energy; there\u2019s something exciting about seeing the works in person for the first time, beyond the previews galleries share in advance.
