{"id":484174,"date":"2026-05-14T11:16:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T11:16:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/484174\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T11:16:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T11:16:11","slug":"asbestos-containing-material-found-at-site-of-tycor-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/484174\/","title":{"rendered":"Asbestos-containing material found at site of Tycor fire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Asbestos-containing material has been found in some of the debris <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/news\/regional\/2026\/0510\/1572570-waterford-fire\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">after a fire tore through the old Jute Factory at Tycor business centre in Co Waterford last weekend.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Waterford City and County Council had said specialist contractors were continuing clean-up operations at the site of the fire, which broke out on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson said materials containing asbestos identified in the area had been removed from surrounding roads and footpaths, and that air quality monitoring was continuing.<\/p>\n<p>Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibre that was used extensively for building insulation before the 1990s, but it is now known that exposure to asbestos can have health implications. It is no longer used but can still be found in older buildings.<\/p>\n<p>Asbestos-containing materials do not cause health problems unless they are disturbed and the asbestos fibres are released into the air.
