Republic of Ireland midfielders Lucy Quinn and Lily Agg will both leave recently crowned WSL2 champions Birmingham City this summer after the club opted against renewing their contracts.<\/p>\n
Quinn \u2013 a consistent presence in Carla Ward’s international squads \u2013 joined the Blues back in July 2021 following a spell at Tottenham Hotspur.<\/p>\n
Paying tribute to the 32-yar-old, Birmingham posted on social media platform X: “After 160 appearances in royal blue, a club legend says goodbye. Everyone at Birmingham City would like to thank Lucy Quinn for her contribution to the club following the conclusion of her contract. Once a Blue, always Blue.”<\/p>\n
Agg has endured a dreadfully unlucky campaign. She suffered an ACL injury back in January 2025, with the subsequent surgery leading to her receiving a cancer diagnosis of melanoma in situ, after the surgeon spotted a suspicious-looking mole.<\/p>\n
After battling back to fitness, going on loan to Durham and earning a recall to the Ireland squad for April\u2019s World Cup qualification double-header against Poland, Agg ruptured her achilles heel during a 2-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest. Agg had headed home Durham’s goal two minutes before the injury.<\/p>\n
In early April, Agg published a statement on her Instagram page <\/a>that read: “I keep asking myself what I ever did to deserve this. Why me? Why now?<\/p>\n “People close to me keep saying I\u2019ll come back stronger again. If I\u2019m being honest, right now I genuinely don\u2019t know if I will come back at all.<\/p>\n “I\u2019ll be another year older. I\u2019m 32 now, out of contract in June, with an ACL and an achilles rupture behind me in the last two years.<\/p>\n “I\u2019m not naive. The game is changing, and I know I\u2019ll be a risk many won\u2019t want to take a chance on.
