\n\t\u201cStar Wars<\/a>\u201d has officially returned to the big screen courtesy of \u201cThe Mandalorian and Grogu<\/a>,\u201d and members of the film press are calling the franchise\u2019s comeback \u201ca thrilling adventure,\u201d \u201ca perfect summer movie\u201d and \u201ca lot of fun,\u201d although overall reactions are divided.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s less about the lore and more a fun, freaky romp across the galaxy. I really dug that about it,\u201d Fandango\u2019s Erik Davis posted on X in one of the most positive takes. \u201cAlso really dug Ludwig G\u00f6ransson\u2019s score, especially the parts that felt like an homage to \u201880s synth-driven horror and action thrillers\u2026 It reminded me how fun \u2018Star Wars\u2019 can be when it stops worrying about canon homework and just cuts loose. Treat it like a pulpy Saturday matinee ride and you\u2019ll have a blast.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPuck News\u2019 box office columnist Scott Mendelson called the movie\u202f \u201ca solid line drive past second base, with lots of \u2018Neat\u2026 haven\u2019t seen that in a STAR WARS before\u2019 charm.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMore mixed reactions came courtesy of i09\u2019s Germain Lussier, who said the movie feels like \u201ca longer, bigger episode of the show\u201d it\u2019s based on, writing: \u201cIt has one or two stand out scenes but it feels much more interested in developing the story to new locations with new creatures than the characters. Enjoyed some of it, left frustrated but the rest.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCollider\u2019s Peri Nemiroff shared criticism of Rotta the Hutt, voiced by \u201cThe Bear\u201d Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White. \u201cLive action Hutts are a challenge to pull off, a gladiator Hutt even more so, and it didn\u2019t help that Rotta\u2019s dialogue was often too on the nose,\u201d she posted. \u201cHe did grow on me, but it feels like there was a more compelling way to convey his place in the world and his mission.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOne of the weakest \u2018Star Wars\u2019 movies,\u201d reporter Jonathan Sim wrote. \u201cAn emotionless, predictable experience that doesn\u2019t push Din Djarin anywhere interesting. Dull, unexciting fight scenes; just CGI monsters. Action figures mashed together. A long, colorless made-for-TV movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA continuation of the beloved Disney+ series \u201cThe Mandalorian,\u201d the new \u201cStar Wars\u201d movie centers on the the adventures of Pedro Pascal<\/a>\u2018s bounty hunter Din Djarin. Per the official synopsis: \u201cThe evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din and his young apprentice Grogu.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJoining Pascal and White in the movie is Sigourney Weaver. Jon Favreau<\/a>, who created the Disney+ series, directs the film and co-writes alongside Noah Kloor and new Lucasfilm boss Dave Filoni.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Mandalorian and Grogu\u201d arrives in theaters at an important time for \u201cStar Wars.\u201d The franchise has been away from movie theaters since the polarizing 2019 release of \u201cThe Rise of Skywalker\u201d and filled up the interim with streaming series, from \u201cThe Mandalorian\u201d to \u201cThe Book of Boba Fett,\u201d \u201cAhsoka,\u201d \u201cAndor,\u201d \u201cThe Acolyte\u201d and more. Furthermore, longtime Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy departed the studio earlier this year and \u201cThe Mandalorian and Grogu\u201d marks the first theatrical release under new bosses Filoni and Lynwen Brennan.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Mandalorian and Grogu\u201d opens in theaters May 22. <\/p>\n

The Mandalorian and Grogu: the marketing had me worried, but this movie is actually a lot of fun. Yes it does feel like a supersized high budget few episodes of the tv show \u2013 more of an adventure of the week than a huge galactic event story. If you like the show you\u2019ll love this.\u2026<\/p>\n
