Owned by 29-year-old Sophie Harvey, the gym will focus on functional fitness to help the body build flexibility, strength and balance to support real-life activities, rather than simply to build bulk.<\/p>\n

Sophie also focuses on community-driven training, which gets people together, helping them to train harder, support one another and remain engaged.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cI\u2019ve wanted to open a gym for the past 12 years but after completing my degree in sport and exercise science and then masters degrees in strength and conditioning coaching, and applied sports nutrition, I worked in elite sport and was involved in GB Swimming, GB Boxing and a number of other sports, including paralympic sports and ballet.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving done this, I found I still wanted to open a gym that is friendly and welcoming and accommodates everyone while providing high quality coaching for those who want it.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the gym I always wanted but never felt I\u2019d found elsewhere, and to get up each day and be able to go to the gym, exercise and hang out with people is so exciting. It\u2019s my dream job.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her timetable of sessions includes strength and conditioning, high-energy workouts, and those that focus on technique and movement.<\/p>\n
There are also specific sessions for mums, parents and children, older adults, and injury prevention.<\/p>\n
A launch event takes place tomorrow (Saturday, May 16) from 9am to 1pm, when people can meet the team and get a feel for what SHFT offers.<\/p>\n
The gym will then be open from Monday. Memberships, packages and pay per class options are available and the website is at sh-ft.co.uk<\/p>\n
