{"id":485923,"date":"2026-05-15T11:47:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-15T11:47:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/485923\/"},"modified":"2026-05-15T11:47:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-15T11:47:11","slug":"watch-the-strokes-give-falling-out-of-love-its-live-debut-on-the-late-show-without-nick-valensi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/485923\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch The Strokes give &#8216;Falling Out Of Love&#8217; its live debut on &#8216;The Late Show&#8217; without Nick Valensi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/the-strokes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Strokes<\/a>\u00a0have played\u00a0new\u00a0single \u2018Falling Out\u00a0Of\u00a0Love\u2019 live for the first time on\u00a0The Late Show\u00a0\u2013 without guitarist Nick Valensi.<\/p>\n<p>The New York band are releasing their seventh album \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-strokes-announce-new-album-reality-awaits-for-this-summer-3938764\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reality Awaits<\/a>\u2019 on June 26 via Cult Records\/RCA (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestrokes.lnk.to\/realityawaits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">pre-order here<\/a>), and earlier this week, they shared \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/listen-to-the-strokes-slow-burning-new-single-falling-out-of-love-3945283\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Falling Out Of Love<\/a>\u2019, the follow-up to lead single \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/track\/the-strokes-going-shopping-single-review-3939057\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Going Shopping<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Last night (May 14), they gave the song its live debut on\u00a0The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, with\u00a0frontman\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/julian-casablancas\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Julian Casablancas<\/a>\u00a0singing through a vocoder effect amid moody spot lighting\u00a0and simmering, slow-burn intensity from the band.<\/p>\n<p>One band member who was not there was Valensi,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-strokes-guitarist-nick-valensi-to-take-temporary-break-from-bands-2026-world-tour-3945551\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">after the band revealed earlier\u00a0in\u00a0the day that he was taking a \u201ctemporary break\u201d<\/a>\u00a0ahead of\u00a0their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-strokes-2026-world-tour-uk-europe-north-america-japan-tickets-3940025\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">upcoming world tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Watch the video here:<\/p>\n<p>The Strokes did not give a reason for Valensi\u2019s absence, but they did add that \u201cholding down the guitar in the meantime is our old friend Steve Schiltz, who many of you will remember from the early NY\u00a0days\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Schiltz was a close associate of The Strokes in the early 2000s and became the founder of the band Longwave, remembered for their early albums \u2018Endsongs\u2019 (2000) and \u2018The Strangest Things\u2019 (2003).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DXEsKLoBeUn\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Their tour kicks off with their set at Bonnaroo on June 2, before taking them around the US\u00a0from June to September. Their European dates begin with a huge show at London\u2019s O2 on October 6, while they will also be playing in Newcastle,\u00a0Manchester\u00a0and Dublin later that month. It will be the band\u2019s first full\u00a0tour on British shores in 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>Find any remaining UK and European tickets\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ticketmaster-uk.tm7559.net\/c\/2862475\/431519\/7559?sharedid=NME&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.co.uk%2Fthe-strokes-tickets%2Fartist%2F807068\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">here<\/a>\u00a0and North American tickets\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ticketmaster.evyy.net\/c\/2862475\/264167\/4272?sharedid=NME&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fthe-strokes-tickets%2Fartist%2F807068\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/track\/the-strokes-going-shopping-single-review-3939057\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NME\u00a0gave\u00a0\u2018Going Shopping\u2019 a three-star review<\/a>\u00a0and described it as a song that \u201cdoesn\u2019t feel bold\u201d but also \u201cdoes avoid playing anything safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou couldn\u2019t definitively place its sound on any of The Strokes\u2019 previous six albums, but the lack of spirit and tenacity \u2013 save for a guitar solo at the end \u2013 is noticeable,\u201d the review read. \u201c\u2018If\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0better than me you\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0have to judge me\u2019,\u00a0signs off Casablancas, with an imaginary raised eyebrow. But\u00a0perhaps even\u00a0he would admit that The Strokes are better than this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The band used their second Coachella set in April <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-strokes-close-coachella-set-with-politically-charged-montage-calling-out-cia-and-us-government-3941164\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">to share a\u00a0politically-charged montage calling out the CIA and the US government<\/a>, drawing attention to universities being destroyed in Iran and accusations involving the death of Martin Luther King Jr.<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Strokes\u00a0have played\u00a0new\u00a0single \u2018Falling Out\u00a0Of\u00a0Love\u2019 live for the first time on\u00a0The Late Show\u00a0\u2013 without guitarist Nick Valensi.
