The Avalanches<\/a> have shared the joyously nostalgic single \u2018Together\u2019,\u00a0featuring Nikki Nair, Jessy\u00a0Lanza<\/a>\u00a0and Prentiss \u2013\u00a0listen\u00a0below.<\/p>\n

The Melbourne electronic \u2018plunderphonics\u2019 group\u00a0have\u00a0not released\u00a0any\u00a0new music\u00a0since their third album \u2018We Will Always Love You<\/a>\u2019 in 2020, itself the follow-up to 2016\u2019s \u2018Wildflower<\/a>\u2019, their return after 16 years away.<\/p>\n

Now, they are back with a new single, which is thought to be the\u00a0first\u00a0taste of a fourth album\u00a0from\u00a0the band. The infectiously energetic track explores\u00a0the aching warmth of the nature of memory, with Jessy Lanza singing: \u201cYou only know the picture me, the one that smiles with hope \/ You could never picture me at home, crying over my telephone \/ I\u2019ll never be the picture me, the me I love the most \/ Staring at a picture on my phone, staring at a memory that\u2019s gone\u201d.<\/p>\n

It comes along with a simple video showing a floppy disk and an iPod galloping forward in front of a sun that rises and sets with alarming regularity. Watch here:<\/p>\n

NME\u00a0spoke to The Avalanches in 2020<\/a>\u00a0about the legacy of their landmark 2000 debut album \u2018Since I Left You\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Since I Left You\u2019s shadow got\u00a0bigger and bigger\u00a0every year,\u201d Tony Di Blasi said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI still remember four years [after it was released] my girlfriend at the time said, \u2018You know people say it\u2019s a really classic record?\u2019\u201d Robbie Chater added. \u201cI\u2019d\u00a0never heard anybody say that. I just heard all the shit I\u00a0should\u2019ve\u00a0done better.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNow it\u2019s 20, the little kid\u2019s all grown up!\u201d Di Blasi exclaimed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a great relationship with the album now,\u201d Chater continued. \u201cIt sounds like a very young me made it. It\u2019s na\u00efve, heart-on-sleeve, it was never cool or ironic. It was passionate, of the moment, full of joy.\u201d<\/p>\n
