Longwave’s Steve Schiltz will fill in for the founding guitarist on the summer tour<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Strokes<\/a> will embark on the Reality Awaits Tour<\/a> without a founding member as the band announced that guitarist Nick Valensi<\/a> is taking a \u201ctemporary break\u201dfrom the summer trek.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe group appeared Thursday night on\u00a0The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, and Valensi was noticeably missing from the performance of the\u00a0Reality Awaits\u00a0track \u201cFalling Out of Love.\u201d Soon after, the Strokes explained the guitarist\u2019s absence on social media.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cNick will be taking a temporary break from the scheduled tour, but we look forward to his return,\u201d the band wrote, adding that \u201cour old Steve Schiltz, who many of you will remember from the early NYC days,\u201d would fill in for Valensi; Schiltz served as singer and guitarist in the similarly Y2K-era NYC band Longwave.<\/p>\n

\n\tIt\u2019s unclear when Valensi will return to the tour, which kicks off in June following the band\u2019s June 12 set at the Bonnaroo festival. In addition to their own tour dates, the Strokes have also festival gigs booked at Pasadena, California\u2019s Just Like Heaven, Atlanta\u2019s Shaky Knees, and Asbury Park, New Jersey\u2019s Sea.Hear.Now. The group will then set off on a European tour in October.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen the band performed a pair of San Francisco shows in April ahead of their Coachella performances, Schiltz was on guitar in place of Valensi; however, Valensi was back on guitar for the Strokes\u2019 Coachella gigs<\/a>.<\/p>\n
