He was 65.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrian Lindstrom died this morning the way he lived\u2014with gentleness and courage, grace and gratitude for his beautiful life. Our children, Carver and Bobbi, and I held him as he took his last breath and we will hold him forever in our hearts,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DYXXkohRulA\/?igsh=MTVoZmhlcXEwM3ZjOQ%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">wrote via Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cWild\u201d author revealed Lindstrom was <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/05\/01\/celebrity-news\/author-cheryl-strayed-reveals-husband-brian-lindstrom-has-serious-fatal-illness\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">diagnosed with a \u201cserious, fatal illness\u201d<\/a> on May 1. In her heartbreaking statement on Friday, she shared that he had lost his battle to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. <\/p>\n<p>Cheryl Strayed\u2019s husband, filmmaker Brian Lindstrom, (pictured here) has died. Instagram\/cherylstrayed<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat tremendous luck it was to be his partner for more than thirty years. We loved each other and our kids with deep devotion and true delight. He was a stellar husband,\u201d the writer, 57, continued, adding that he was \u201che most magnificent dad\u201d to their two children: 21-year-old daughter Bobbi and 20 year-old son Carver.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a man whose every word and deed was driven by kindness, compassion, and generosity. He saw the goodness in everyone. He believed that we are all sacred and redeemable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Strayed also praised his work as a filmmaker, noting that her late husband told stories \u201cof people who, as he put it, \u2018society puts an X through.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrian Lindstrom died this morning the way he lived\u2014with gentleness and courage, grace and gratitude for his beautiful life,\u201d she wrote. He made films about incarcerated moms and their kids, about people with mental illness and substance use disorders, about teens living in homeless shelters, foster care, and detention centers, about people who were at the bottom and trying to climb up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But above his impressive career in film, Strayed wrote that Lindstrom\u2019s \u201cgreatest legacy\u201d is their two children \u201cwho embody everything good and true about their father.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir extraordinary grace, courage, and fortitude during this harrowing time was unfaltering and grounded in the undying love Brian poured into them every day of their lives,\u201d she gushed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat tremendous luck it was to be his partner for more than thirty years. We loved each other and our kids with deep devotion and true delight,\u201d she continued. Instagram\/cherylstrayed<\/p>\n<p>Strayed concluded, \u201cWe do not know how we will live without him. We\u2019re utterly bereft. We can only walk this dark path and search for the beauty Brian knew was there. It will be his eternal light that guides us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When the \u201cMind Over Mountain\u201d podcast host first announced Lindstrom\u2019s illness, she asked her followers to hold her family \u201cin your thoughts, prayers, light and love.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She also canceled her writing workshop\u00a0and upcoming appearance at Hunter College\u00a0to stay by his side.<\/p>\n<p>Strayed is the author of \u201cTorch,\u201d \u201cWild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail,\u201d \u201cTiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar\u201d and \u201cBrave Enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her memoir \u201cWild\u201d was adapted into a 2014 film\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2021\/06\/16\/reese-witherspoon-had-panic-attacks-before-filming-wild\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">starring Reese Witherspoon as Strayed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The couple shared two kids, whom Strayed wrote, \u201cembody everything good and true about their father.\u201d Instagram\/cherylstrayed<\/p>\n<p>She also said their adult children are Lindstrom\u2019s \u201cgreatest legacy.\u201d Instagram\/cherylstrayed<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTiny Beautiful Things,\u201d based on her advice column, was adapted into a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/04\/02\/kathryn-hahn-charms-as-a-slovenly-columnist-in-tiny-beautiful-things\/?_gl=1*pwj764*_gcl_au*MTY4NjUzMDg4MS4xNzc1NTA3MTg2*_ga*MTYyODY0MjY4LjE3Nzg3NzQ0Njg.*_ga_0DZ7LHF5PZ*czE3Nzg4NzI3NDkkbzckZzEkdDE3Nzg4Nzg5NTgkajE1JGwwJGgw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2023 Hulu series starring Kathryn Hahn<\/a>, while \u201cWild\u201d earned Witherspoon an Academy Award nomination.<\/p>\n<p>Documentarian Lindstrom is known for directing 2013\u2019s \u201cAlien Boy: The Life and Death of James Chasse\u201d and 2022\u2019s \u201cLost Angel: The Genius of Judee Sill.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The couple also co-directed the 2019 film \u201cWe Are Forbidden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They first met in 1995, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CherylStrayed\/posts\/met-this-beautiful-man-27-years-ago-todayliterally-half-my-lifetime-ago-the-next\/671346201017839\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">per a\u00a02022 Facebook post<\/a> from Strayed.<\/p>\n<p>Strayed and Lindstrom (pictured here with Jon Stewart in 2014) first met in 1995.<br \/>\n Vivien Killilea<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s always, always, always been there for me, every time I needed him.
