Microsoft announced that some Azure cloud
\nservice users may face slower connections following multiple undersea fiber
\noptic cable cuts in the Red Sea.<\/p>\n
The company said disruptions are most likely
\nwhen internet traffic from the Middle East originates in or terminates in Asia
\nor Europe.<\/p>\n
Several subsea cables were also damaged on
\nSeptember 6, 2025, disrupting global internet and communications flows.
\nConnectivity remains available, but rerouted traffic has caused increased
\nlatency and congestion on major international routes.<\/p>\n
\u201cUndersea fiber cuts can take time to
\nrepair,\u201d Microsoft said in a service update, noting it will \u201ccontinuously
\nmonitor, rebalance, and optimise routing to reduce customer impact in the
\nmeantime\u201d and provide daily updates or sooner if conditions change.<\/p>\n
The Red Sea is a critical internet corridor
\nlinking Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Earlier this year, damage to four
\ncables near Yemen cut off about 25 percent of global internet traffic,
\naffecting major providers and platforms worldwide.<\/p>\n
According to a 2017 study by the US
\nDepartment of Homeland Security, about 97 percent of all intercontinental
