EastEnders star Kim Medcalf has promised a “classic” moment involving the Mitchell family as they launch a dramatic rescue mission. With Mark Fowler soon to be in the clutches of some scary gangsters<\/a>, the clan will unite.<\/p>\n

In upcoming scenes on the BBC soap<\/a>, Mark’s life will be in grave danger as he is abducted by some criminals, who have a score to settle. His father, Grant, catches wind of this and attempts to save the day with some help from Phil, Sam and Billy.<\/p>\n

To make matters even more dramatic, the development comes at the time of Nigel Bates’s funeral, Phil and Grant’s close friend. It’s set to be a busy time all around in Walford, and Medcalf, who plays Sam, has teased what we can expect. <\/p>\n

“Everything escalates very quickly,” she said. “Although the plan is initially to try and save Mark after the funeral, they realise they can’t leave him there, and agree that Nigel would have wanted them to act. <\/p>\n

“It balances huge emotion with flashes of humour and nostalgia \u2013 there’s some classic Mitchell moments. Between the attempted rescue mission and Nigel’s funeral, they’re reminded who they are as a family.”<\/p>\n

The actor, who returned to the soap in 2022 after a 17-year absence, further explained that the situation would bring the siblings together, and also remind Sam of her love for other figures such as Billy.<\/p>\n

“For Sam, it reinforces the importance of family, her love for Ricky, and that sense that blood ultimately runs deepest,” said Medcalf. “I also really love Sam’s relationship with Billy. They’ve often bonded over being the underdogs.

“Back in 2004, when Peggy and Phil weren’t in Walford, they were a real team – he was pretty much all she had. So, it was lovely having Billy right in the middle of the rescue madness, because he’s very much part of that family unit.”<\/p>\n

While we’ll have to wait to see how the rescue mission pans out, Medcalf recalled that filming the scenes for Nigel’s funeral proved to be “incredibly emotional” for everybody, as the much-loved Paul Bradley bowed out from the soap.
<\/p>\n

“Seeing the packed church really felt like the whole community had come together to honour Nigel,” she said. “Everyone adores Paul, which made it even more moving. It was handled with real care and respect by Karen, Steve, Ross and production.”<\/p>\n

EastEnders<\/strong> airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast. <\/strong><\/p>\n
