{"id":488233,"date":"2026-05-16T20:46:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-16T20:46:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/488233\/"},"modified":"2026-05-16T20:46:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T20:46:20","slug":"julianne-moore-rejects-movies-with-explosions-and-guns-in-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/488233\/","title":{"rendered":"Julianne Moore Rejects Movies &#8216;With Explosions and Guns&#8217; in 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/julianne-moore\/\" id=\"auto-tag_julianne-moore\" data-tag=\"julianne-moore\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Julianne Moore<\/a> reflected on her decades-long career in a conversation with Variety\u2018s Angelique Jackson during a Kering Women in Motion Talk at Cannes on Saturday, discussing everything from female representation in film to how she selects her roles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe Oscar-winning actor, who is receiving Kering\u2019s Women in Motion Award at this year\u2019s festival, kicked off the talk by saying that the prize is \u201ca thrill and a tremendous honor.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cAs an actor, you\u2019re part of a gig economy\u2026 you\u2019re going from one job to the next,\u201d she said. \u201cWhen you realize you\u2019re being celebrated or asked to speak about what\u2019s behind you, it\u2019s like wow. This is something I created in my life. It\u2019s a nice point of reflection and wonderful honor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMoore has been an advocate for women\u2019s representation in the industry since the start of her career. When asked about a recent study reporting that the number of women in lead roles dropped to 37% among 2025\u2019s highest-grossing movies, down 10% from 2024, Moore noted the issue is \u201cnot endemic just to the film industry, it\u2019s global.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI mean, there\u2019s not representation in C-suites, there\u2019s not representation in media, there\u2019s not representation in higher education. There are lots of places where we don\u2019t have the representation we deserve. So I feel like it\u2019s a bigger problem,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd how do you change that? I don\u2019t know. It\u2019s like, how does a mouse get through a wall? One bite at a time. You do it slowly, steadily, mindfully, making choices, speaking up, using your privilege, hiring more, talking about alliances, changing things for us on set.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tShe added that \u201cwomen are each other\u2019s greatest allies\u201d and \u201cthat\u2019s the secret sauce\u201d to success. \u201cIt\u2019s like, we are the ones who have each other\u2019s backs, we are the ones who hire each other, we are the ones that write stories about ourselves,\u201d Moore added. \u201cAnd that actually goes back to point of view, too. Like, who is telling that story? Whose point of view is it? Is it a female point of view?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMoore strives to align herself with filmmakers who are \u201cclear about whose story it is, how it\u2019s being told and whether or not it\u2019s accurate.\u201d Similarly, as she\u2019s progressed in her career and been able to be pickier with roles, there are some genres she\u2019s just not interested in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019m less and less interested in tragedy, I would say,\u201d she said. \u201cParticularly now at a time when things are rough globally, it\u2019s hard for me to invest in a story that I think is pretend, where I feel like the depth of the emotion doesn\u2019t measure up to what\u2019s happening in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMoore continued: \u201cI don\u2019t like someone being murdered. I don\u2019t like explosions and guns. I don\u2019t like histrionics. I don\u2019t like things that raise the stakes without real feeling underneath. I mean, that actually bothers me because that\u2019s like noise. I don\u2019t know how to play it. I don\u2019t want to watch it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tShe also looked back on some of her most famous roles, including starring in \u201cThe Hours\u201d alongside Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman. Asked how Streep inspired her in her career, Moore said: \u201cShe\u2019s the gold standard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI sort of grew up watching television and movies and seeing movie stars, and she was the first woman that I saw who appeared to be touchable and untouchable at the same time. There was something very human about her and something very modern,\u201d Moore said. \u201cHere was this actress who was like the next big thing, and she was so precise in what she did and so modern and so accessible and yet glamorous and wonderful and brave all at the same time.
