Sky’s thriller Prisoner has proven itself to be a big hit following its premiere a few weeks ago<\/a>, so it’s not a huge surprise that the broadcaster has already greenlit a second season, with some plot details already confirmed.<\/p>\n

Big Boys star Izuka Hoyle will be back as prison transport officer Amber Todd, with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> stating that she will be struggling to keep both herself and her family together after the events of season 1.<\/p>\n

This time around she’ll be tasked with escorting a female US academic turned killer, who is at the centre of a polarising case.<\/p>\n

An execution attempt from inside law enforcement leads to Amber being framed for murder, meaning that not only does she have to protect her charge, but also clear her name.<\/p>\n

Production for the season is set to take place later this year. Given that season 1 was filmed last year, it’s pretty logical to expect season 2 in 2027.<\/p>\n

The first season received solid reviews from critics, with plenty of them comparing it to a certain other British police drama.<\/p>\n

“There are obvious echoes of Line of Duty about the set-up, but the fact that Prisoner can still take your breath away is a testament to its inventiveness”, wrote The Herald Scotland<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Guardian<\/a> called it “a lean, Line of Duty-esque police drama” with “sleek storytelling”, while the Irish Independent<\/a> stated “you\u2019ll certainly be entertained” if you can “put your brain into neutral and ignore the implausibility of it all”.<\/p>\n

“Falling in the Line of Duty wheelhouse, it works, partly thanks to the committed performances from Izuka Hoyle [and] Tahar Rahim”, wrote The Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Yes, it’s popcorn TV, but there are twists, rug-pulls and a climactic corpse-strewn gun battle.”<\/p>\n
