{"id":489771,"date":"2026-05-17T22:37:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T22:37:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/489771\/"},"modified":"2026-05-17T22:37:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T22:37:11","slug":"english-man-caught-red-handed-trying-to-defraud-kerry-pensioner-court-hears","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/489771\/","title":{"rendered":"English man &#8216;caught red-handed&#8217; trying to defraud Kerry pensioner, court hears\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An English man was allegedly &#8220;caught red-handed&#8221; trying to collect money from an elderly man in Co <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/maintopics\/kerry-news_topic-5331488.html\">Kerry<\/a> on Friday and garda\u00ed said they suspect there may be other injured parties.<\/p>\n<p>Noah Jake Woolley appeared before a special sitting of Killarney District Court as part of what garda\u00ed said was an ongoing investigation into alleged investment fraud and deception.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Garda Eamon Prendiville said the 20-year-old of New Rd, Belper Amber Valley, Derbyshire,\u00a0had travelled on a one-way flight to Ireland, had given a false name and address to garda\u00ed when first approached, and had no outgoing flight booked. An examination of his mobile phone revealed he had intended to travel to Spain and he admitted this to garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The injured party is a 79-year-old man who was caring for two vulnerable adults. Garda Prendiville said:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\n            He was caught red-handed trying to collect money from the injured party.\n        <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He also had in his possession \u201ca substantial amount of cash\u201d and garda\u00ed suspected there were more injured parties, the garda said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He was charged that he attempted to commit theft and that he dishonestly by deception induced a named man to withdraw \u20ac9,500 in cash from his bank account to give to him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Garda Prendiville said that when Mr Woolley was charged he made no reply.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Garda\u00ed objected to bail because of the nature and seriousness of the charge. They also believed he was a flight risk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">Accused man&#8217;s parents in court\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Solicitor Padraig O\u2019Connell said his client had no previous convictions in this country or any other; his parents had travelled from Derbyshire and were in court to support him.
