the digital front door of the future, as they pour billions of dollars into generative artificial intelligence, betting that whoever builds the most seamless AI-powered gateway will influence how the country\u2019s 1.4 billion people shop, work, and communicate.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Over the past decades, the gateway to the internet has shifted form \u2013 from the early web portals to the search engine era, and eventually to the \u201csuper apps\u201d that currently dominate Chinese online life.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the industry is betting on a new evolution: the <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/tech\/tech-trends\/article\/3353797\/ai-agents-face-trust-issues-high-risk-industrial-sectors-experts?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">AI agent<\/a><strong data-qa=\"ContentSchemaRender-defaultRenderMapFunctions-Component\" class=\"css-1mniedq ability to understand and generate natural language and synthesise information, thereby equipping conventional online services \u2013 search engines or shopping platforms \u2013 to turn once rigid online roaming for information into a more smooth conversational experience, said Zhang Yi, founder and chief analyst at internet consultancy iiMedia.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cA streamlined process to have AI interpret user intents, synthesising information, recommending products and placing orders is more efficient\u201d than the traditional way of online shopping that requires a user to go through the process manually, Zhang
