Miranda Lambert, a frequently seen and welcome face at the Academy of Country Music Awards, mixed country and disco when she sang her upbeat new song, \u201cCrisco,\u201d on the ACMs stage on Sunday night.<\/p>\n
Dressed in denim and diamonds and sporting a white cowboy hat, Lambert led her band, bolstered by a string section, through the new track, which she dropped as a single on Friday. \u201cCrisco\u201d is rich in late-Seventies and Eighties Urban Cowboy vibes: she shouts out Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton\u2019s \u201cIslands in the Stream,\u201d and Glen Campbell\u2019s \u201cSouthern Nights.\u201d Lambert is helping revive smooth Eighties sounds, both as co-producer of Ella Langley\u2019s \u201cChoosin\u2019 Texas\u201d and with her own new material like \u201cCrisco.\u201d (Langley was seen singing along to \u201cCrisco\u201d in the audience.)<\/p>\n
More from Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n Over the last 20 years, Lambert has become the winningest artist of all time at the ACMs. Although she lost Top New Female Vocalist in 2006, the first year she was nominated, she claimed the trophy for that category when she was nominated for it again in 2007. Since then, she\u2019s claimed 35 of the 75 awards she\u2019s been nominated for. Most recently, she took home the Triple Crown Award in 2023.<\/p>\n Lambert\u2019s last album, Postcards from Texas, came out in 2024, and it isn\u2019t clear yet what \u201cCrisco\u201d portends for her. But it\u2019s also not like Lambert has been silent, since she co-wrote and sang backing vocals on Langley\u2019s Number One pop hit, \u201cChoosin\u2019 Texas.\u201d Lambert also co-produced Langley\u2019s Dandelion album, which came out in April, and duetted with her on its \u201cButterfly Season.\u201d<\/p>\n The ACM Awards took place at Las Vegas\u2019 MGM Grand Garden Arena, where Shania Twain served as host.
