The stress in the bond market is intensifying and showing few signs of abating. For G7 finance ministers and central bank governors meeting in Paris, this means that debt pressure will continue to mount as borrowing costs keep driving higher. <\/p>\n
The big question \u2014 how far will they go with acknowledging the risk of recession?<\/p>\n
What you need to know today<\/p>\n G7 Finance Ministers and central bank governors will meet in Paris later<\/a> on Monday, with the economic shock triggered by the Iran war at the top of the agenda. <\/p>\n “Opening the Strait of Hormuz and bringing the conflict to a lasting end are of the utmost importance in mitigating the impact on the economy,” Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis said in a\u00a0statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n Borrowing costs across the G7 have spiked in recent weeks, raising long-term inflation worries, while global oil inventories are falling at a record pace. <\/p>\n Another high-stakes meeting this week will do little to calm nerves. <\/p>\n Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to Beijing<\/a>, just days after U.S. President Donald Trump<\/a>‘s visit, to meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. <\/p>\n The two leaders “will discuss current bilateral matters, ways to\u00a0further strengthen the\u00a0comprehensive partnership and\u00a0strategic cooperation between the\u00a0Russian Federation and\u00a0the\u00a0People’s Republic of\u00a0China, and\u00a0exchange views on\u00a0key international and\u00a0regional matters,” the Kremlin said.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the White House is touting a series of deals <\/a>following the trip to China. China will buy at least $17 billion of U.S. agricultural goods annually through 2028. American officials also said Beijing would address rare earth shortages, although this was not mentioned in the corresponding statement from China. <\/p>\n It’s a negative start <\/a>to the trading week in Asia-Pacific, with stocks broadly lower on geopolitical jitters. <\/p>\n In a post on Truth Social, Trump on Sunday said<\/a> “the Clock is Ticking” for Iran and warned there “won’t be anything left” if action was not taken soon, adding that “TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!”\u00a0<\/p>\n But it’s a different story for South Korea’s Kospi.
