\n\tThe logline for HBO<\/a>\u2018s Lanterns<\/a> and most of the marketing and press around the show has emphasized that it will be a \u201cdark, earth-based mystery.\u201d But the show won\u2019t confine itself entirely to this world.<\/p>\n

\n\tA new trailer for the DC Studios<\/a> series features a shot of a planet that decidedly does not look like Earth and Green Lantern Corps member Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler<\/a>) in the familiar uniform from the comics (also possibly in an otherworldly setting). And whereas the first teaser for the series<\/a> only hinted at the power of a Green Lantern ring, the new trailer makes explicit some of the things it can do. Watch the trailer below.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe trailer \u2014 which continues to play off the tension between Jordan and new Lantern Corps recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre<\/a>) \u2014 also confirms that Nathan Fillion<\/a> will reprise his role as Guy Gardner from last year\u2019s Superman film and shows Laura Linney<\/a> in an undisclosed role. In a scene late in the trailer, new Stewart confides to Linney\u2019s character that \u201cI was raised fearless, and I\u2019ll do this better than [Jordan] has ever done it before.\u201d She replies, \u201cThen go and get it, John Stewart.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAlong with the trailer, HBO has set an Aug. 16 premiere date for Lanterns. The series also stars Kelly Macdonald<\/a>, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan<\/a>, Jason Ritter, Ulrich Thomsen, J. Alphonse Nicholson and Jasmine Cephas Jones. <\/p>\n

\n\tChris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, The Leftovers) and Eisner Award-winning comics writer Tom King co-created the series and wrote the first episode. Mundy is the showrunner and executive produces with Lindelof, King, DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, Ron Schmidt and James Hawes, who directed the first two episodes.
