May 19 (Reuters) – Epic Games said on Tuesday its popular shooter title “Fortnite” has returned to global App \u200cStores, as the videogame maker signaled confidence in \u200ca favorable outcome from an ongoing lawsuit against Apple<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Once Apple is forced \u200bto show its costs, governments around the world will not allow Apple junk fees to stand,” Epic said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Epic, a U.S.-based studio backed by China’s Tencent, has \u200cbeen embroiled in a \u2060legal battle with Apple since 2020 and alleged that the company’s practice of charging a \u2060commission of up to 30% on in-app payments violated U.S. antitrust rules.<\/p>\n

“Apple knows the U.S. federal court will force it \u200bto be \u200btransparent about how it \u200bcharges its App Store fees,” \u200cEpic said.<\/p>\n

Last year, “Fortnite” was made available on the App Store in the U.S. after a nearly five-year ban.<\/p>\n

“Fortnite”, one of the most popular games in the world, follows a last-man-standing battle royale formula and boasts millions of daily \u200cplayers who spend heavily on \u200bin-game currency to buy cosmetics for \u200bavatars.<\/p>\n

However, Epic earlier this \u200byear said it will cut more than \u200c1,000 jobs following a drop \u200bin engagement for “Fortnite” \u200bdue to macroeconomic uncertainty and a challenging spending environment.<\/p>\n

Epic said “Fortnite” has not returned to the Australian App Store \u200byet as \u200cApple continues to enforce many developer terms that the \u200bcourt had found unlawful.<\/p>\n
