{"id":494003,"date":"2026-05-20T11:17:17","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T11:17:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/494003\/"},"modified":"2026-05-20T11:17:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T11:17:17","slug":"only-8-of-atal-pension-yojanas-subscribers-opt-for-%e2%82%b95000-monthly-slab-87-choose-minimum-sum-of-%e2%82%b91000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/494003\/","title":{"rendered":"Only 8% of Atal Pension Yojana\u2019s subscribers opt for \u20b95,000 monthly slab; 87% choose minimum sum of \u20b91,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>About 87% of Atal Pension Yojana\u2019s subscribers have opted for the minimum assured sum of  \u20b91,000 per month, while only a little over 8% have chosen the highest slab of  \u20b95,000, according to data released by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Of over 90 million gross enrolments in the scheme as of 13 May, 79.4 million chose the  \u20b91,000 monthly pension slab and about 7 million subscribers selected the  \u20b95,000 pension option, according to the data.<\/p>\n<p>The gap across <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/market\/pension-fund-regulator-fee-tweak-nps-distributors-mutual-funds-trail-commissions-pfrda-subhasis-ghosh-11777010427015.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"pension slabs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">pension slabs<\/a> in the scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 9 May 2015, remains significant. The  \u20b92,000 pension category had 2.6 million subscribers, or 3% of the total, while the  \u20b93,000 and  \u20b94,000 slabs had 1.2 million and 458,698 subscribers, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>According to M. Nagaraju, secretary in the Department of Financial Services, APY had more than  \u20b954,000 crore of assets under management, with a record 13.5 million subscribers added during FY26.<\/p>\n<p>Gender-wise, males accounted for 51.43% of the subscribers and females 48.54%. The scheme had 26,192 transgender subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>S. Ramann, chairperson of <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/news\/pfrda-chairman-perpetual-funds-vc-pe-fund-nps-pension-fund-aum-aifs-markets-lps-11775213711715.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"PFRDA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PFRDA<\/a>, underlined the growing importance of retirement preparedness and highlighted the significant rise in enrolments among the 18-25 age group, reflecting increasing awareness among youth regarding long-term financial security. He emphasized the need to strengthen subscriber engagement and pension awareness across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Age-wise data showed the highest participation from younger subscribers. The 21\u201325-year category accounted for 27.6% of the enrolments, followed by the 26\u201330-year segment with 24.1% and subscribers aged 31 to 35 at 19.15%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Persistency rate<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe high concentration of subscribers in the entry-level pension slabs under the <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/news\/india\/atal-pension-yojana-payout-retention-pfrda-mof-social-security-11776856966651.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Atal Pension Yojana\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Atal Pension Yojana<\/a> reflects the scheme&#8217;s massive success in making secure retirement benefits affordable and accessible to low-income households,\u201d said Rahul Singh, associate professor at O. P. Jindal Global University. \u201cAs financial literacy, incomes and savings capacity improve over time, a gradual movement towards higher pension categories can also be expected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>APY is open to all Indian citizens aged 18 to 40, except those who are or have been income-tax payers. The government guarantees subscribers a monthly pension upon reaching age 60. The pension amount is determined by a subscriber\u2019s entry age and monthly contributions.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme had a persistency rate of 50.1% as of 31 March, indicating that almost half the subscribers did not regularly maintain their contributions.
