The kids used to love it when they were little.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"nAzlsRkyMsZOvyL\" style=\"display:none\">She mostly works with acrylic paint, but also uses acrylic pen to create fine and detailed lace-like patterns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nAzlsRkyMsZOvyL\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cUsing a pen gives you more control and is good for doing detailed patterns.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"m-0 flex flex-col gap-6 border-b border-l-0 border-r-0 border-t border-solid border-sys-border-soft p-6 text-left text-sys-text-dark nAzlsRkyMsZOvyL\" data-test-ui=\"article__blockquote\" style=\"display:none\">\n<p class=\"!m-0 !font-sans-italic !text-xl !font-bold !-tracking-[0.0125rem] before:content-open-quote after:content-close-quote\" data-test-ui=\"article__blockquote-quote\">The name of the exhibition \u2013 Let Me \u2013 is me asking to show you this part of who I am.<\/p>\n<p>Jodi Scandrett<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"nAzlsRkyMsZOvyL\" style=\"display:none\">The exhibition is varied, ranging from flowers painted in watercolour to an ink print and a large digital print of a brown leaf that has an interesting texture to it when viewed from up close. <\/p>\n<p class=\"nAzlsRkyMsZOvyL\" style=\"display:none\">Scandrett is from a crafty family. As a young girl, she would always do art activities at her grandmother\u2019s house.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nAzlsRkyMsZOvyL\" style=\"display:none\">Her mother is an expert at crocheting, and she remembers spending a lot of time with her choosing fabrics and buttons at Arthur Toye, a former fabric and haberdashery store in Gisborne, as a child.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nAzlsRkyMsZOvyL\" style=\"display:none\">A qualified early childhood educator, Scandrett last year moved into a head teacher role in the learning support unit at Gisborne Girls\u2019 High School, working with special needs students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nAzlsRkyMsZOvyL\" style=\"display:none\">She incorporates art into her teaching and encouraged some of her students to enter the IHC Art Awards last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nAzlsRkyMsZOvyL\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cIt\u2019s a job I love and a job that gives me the space to create with my students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"nAzlsRkyMsZOvyL\" style=\"display:none\">Art has always been her peaceful escape from the world when it gets too loud for her. <\/p>\n<p class=\"nAzlsRkyMsZOvyL\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cIt is something I do when I have time in between all my other roles of being a mother, wife, teacher, daughter and sister.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"nAzlsRkyMsZOvyL\" style=\"display:none\">She said she has purposely kept the art affordable.
